Does anyone know what is the average fuel economy of a Hilux turbo diesel 3000 cc automatic and manual.

Hahaha ! Fuel economy and hilux are opposite facts ! If some1 affords a hilux he shouldn't be bothered about its fuel economy

Auto will give a lot less .. If u keep it well maintained .. And use all the low down torque the manual ain't to bad.

Why does a car with auto transmission gives less fuel economy? I always thought that it gave more than the manual

Sir jee, it is opposite case.
The Automatic transmission is controlled through Computer and Sensors in the car while for manual you are at your own.
Cutting long story short,
Automatic = Comfort
Manual = Fuel Economy

auto boxes use toque converters..bigger the converter the more power is required..manual geared u chose ur gear change..but things have changed..dsg..7g..lexus prius ..some new autos are very clever ..and more efficient than manuals... 4x4 trucks..old stuff..manuals are better..

Well ive never driven it myself but the 3.0 model gives upto 15km/l as told by some of the drivers of the company where my father works but im not sure

15km/l impossible in dreams .... he must have said 15km/galon

10-12km/l in long driving with decent foot on accelerator

Nah he said 15km/l n i was like "yeah okay :/" hehe but thats why i said on my above comment that i may be wrong :p, im more of a car guy and these things scare me , i think that may be it'll flip over when i'll turn in a corner

Manual transmissions are generally more efficient i.e., (output energy/input energy)*100 (excuse me if I forgot the formula. I am an old person)
But a car's mileage depends on lot of other things including a particular drivers driving style.
Hilux 2.5 D4-D indus version, manual gear returns about 10kmpl on highway.

General case:

Manual cars have 5 gears whereas the same car in auto usually has 4. Secondly auto cars have torque converters and the efficiency of torque converter is much lesser as compared to mechanical coupling
