it is possible for anyone to buy anything in this country...

there are two main types of papers required, US dollar and Pak ruppees...

no one checks for licenses etc...We have driven all our lives without licenses lol....so relax.

make sure you have around 2000-4000USD. That is what it takes to buy a used 250cc bike in excellent condition and recent make.

on serious note, you should have identification papers (passport, ID card, etc) thats all thats needed....

The Police in Islamabad, ITP, Islamabad Traffic Police is very well trained and organized. I am a Pakistani American, and I visit Pakistan occasionally and drive there as well.

ITP, is very strict, and can pull over a driver violating laws, including seatbelt violations, speeding, breaking redlight, etc. They are comparable to European Police. Also Pakistani Motorway Police is at par with International European/American Police standards. They are well equipped and have latest Radars, Police Cruisers (sometimes better than American Police), I have seen Toyota Landcruiser Police Cruisers being used by Pakistani Motorway Police. I am not Joking. Also Islamabad, Traffic Police has Latest Police Cruisers and they can chase you effectively, if they suspect any traffic violations.

So, make sure you have an International Drivers License, or if you are a visitor atleast have your French License, and all proper Passport, ID's etc.

The police in other areas of Pakistan, i.e. Karachi, Lahore, not too sure about, but they are relatively easy going.

Driving in Islamabad, and on Motorway between Lahore - Islamabad - Peshawar, etc. is relatively well organized and most people do obey traffic laws. But once you are outside of Islamabad, the traffic becomes very chaotic and extremely hard for an outsider to drive a car, motorbikes are even more difficult to maneuver in that sort of traffic. Don't want to scare you, just laying out the facts, as I am used to American Driving conditions which is very systematic and well organized, similar to Europe but in Pakistan, I have a very hard time driving in Pakistan, as do many people that have lived outside of Pakistan and occasionally go back to their homecountry once in a while, most prefer not to drive on their own, but "hire" a driver to drive them around, for only $100 a month.

At first you would need to take cabs, etc. to make your way around. Rememebr, you have to share the road with not only Buses, Trucks, Minibuses, but also thousands of motorbikes, rickshaws, and even animal pulled carts, bicycles etc. It can be very chaotic at first, specially for a foreigner.

So, be very careful, and observe the traffic pattern, before attempting to ride a motorbike. It can be very hard, specially outside of Islamabad, to even ride a bike, you have to be constantly vigilant for others mistakes, Bus and Truck Drivers are notorious, and they usually do NOT see, motorbikes, so you have to watch out for them.

First of all you are very welcome to come to Pakistan, I am sorry that few of my friends' painted a picture of Non existence of LAW in the country which is not true.The fact is that local people know their way round it.

I would suggest do no travel without complete documents you should have a valid international driving licence and a French Passport with a valid visa. Before you come you may ask Pakistan Embassy in franc about buying a bike .I think buying will not be an issue but getting it registered in your name may be. If you have any fried or relative in Pakistan you can have it registered in his name easily and get an authorisation letter in your name

This is very important for your own safety. do no take any ill advise and take any risk doing things illegally, You are visiting Pakistan to enjoy, do not get into trouble if you can avoid it. As a foreigner if you get c aught, this could be a big problem and may ruin your vacation.

you need to obtain an NOC as Tourist to travel by road in Pakistan in a local tourist bus or intercity bus at snap check point you need to show the Passport plus NOC from Interior Ministry - Pakistan clearly stating purpose of your road travel in a public transport. (period)

as a visitor on tourist or a business visa you can not own a vehicle or a rent property. If you are under a work visa on a contract with a local or foreign company they can own the vehicle. With a local licence you can drive that car / bike with company ID always with you. However under all lawful conditions as a foreign national you need to have an NOC to travel by road outside 55KM radius of your work / residence area.

All other GIMMICKS to twist arm of law will lead you into DEEP SS-hit and immediate expulsion from the country
