Hi all,
My name is Laurent, I'm from Switzerland and I'll be touring Pakistan for 2 months from mid-August, and I want to do this by motorbike. Because it's fun, convenient and at the end of the day, I'm a biker ! I've already visited Pakistan 10 years ago overland on my own bike, and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the place and by the kindness of the people. But this time I'll come by plane, so I want to buy a bike locally. I could rent but for a long duration I'd rather buy and sell back.
I'm looking into something along the lines of a Suzuki GS 150, it seems to be the more common model out there. I see many offers here of 2nd-hand bikes so it should be no problem. But maybe it would be easier if somebody from Lahore (I'll be arriving in this city) would show me the best place to shop for a bike, and maybe a good mechanic to have it checked and prepared, if need be.
My plan is to go and tour the mountains up north, of course. I'll have plenty of time, so I'll drive KKH, which I had done a long time ago, but also anywhere between Skardu and Chitral. I'll be spending time with locals and save a fair amount of time for photography, so a small bike like the Suzuki would be just fine. It needs to be simple enough I can fix it and find spare parts anywhere.
Navigating the remote valleys of Karakoram is no problem but Lahore city is daunting... Thanks for your help and any pointer you could give me.
Laurent
