Engine oil leak from tappet cover

i have recently buy the Suzuki Khyber 1997, after few days i have noticed that my engine oil is decreasing, when i inspect the oil is leaking from tappet cover. i have change the tappet cover seal but it is leaking from one place now which is shown in the picture. so any body have some suggestions regarding this problem.

change you tappet cover seal, you'd be fine. get the tappets adjusted as well when you are on it, make sure to go to a good mechanic.

From what I see oil could be leaking from the oil cap and the distributor seal also. As the oil is on top of the valve cover, the culprit is the oil cap.

Solution: Inspect and replace oil cap and distributor seal or tighten bolts according to spec. Silcon can be very useful here.

But if oil is decreasing at a noticable rate then this is not the main reason, could be other leaks as well.

i have already change the tappet seal. i will change the distributor seal as suggested by Racerf1 said. also tell me the good mechanic in islamabad .Thank you all.

that ignition coil looks like a heavy duty coil - and instead of having ignition wires snaking around the engine - cut them to length and recrimp the ends - the plug boots also are of incorrect design - they should be angled

The tappet cover gasket when not properly installed causes this kind of leak. It tends to slip in from the curved side during placement of the cover. You can inspect this by removing the tappet cover and see the gasket it will show you a uniform depression pattern caused by tightening. where there is no depression in the gasket that is from where the oil is seeping out.

Rare chance of distributor side gasket or O ring.

BTW which engine is it , i couldnt avoid to notice that its 4 cylinder and breaker point distributor?

Thats problem is because of bad Battery or weak battery. Having same problem but I manage to start in morning:P

When u installed the new battery? In winter old battery usually get weak in resulting in starting problem. Mine battery is good also and charging properly too and I also checked my battery and alternator and both of them are perfect but still I often face starting problem in morning..

Try moving your car a little bit before starting in the morning and it will start in first self. I experienced it.:P:)

If tappet seal is good then the problem is with distributor seals. Change both the seals. One is like "O". It is the size of finger ring. The other seal is where distributor is attached to the engine.

Yes it could be the camshaft seal too (i did forget this) Good one!

Ok that actual pics you post do show a lot of oil accumulated, here is what you need to do before you can figure things out.

Go get your engine bay pressure washed specifically that area of oil and even from underneath the engine bay (pay the guy a bit more and while cleaning it as good faith jesture he will teach you how to clean your engine bay :))

Do not oil it or diesel it or whatever they spray on after the wash, just keep it dry and keep an eye open for things being pushed or pulled by wash pressure.

get it hand dried using clothes or whatever. Take it home and let it sit there to dry until completely dry.

then start the engine and look for the oil if it is visible, good place would be with lift or ramp so you can lift it up and have a view from underneath too, sometimes not all things are visible from the top.

With everything cleaning any new oil pouring will be visible, plus if you can get additive dye which is mixed in engine oil for better visibility and easy, to pinpoint the leak.

i dont knw if those engines have pcv's(positive crankcase valve). but apparently faulty can cause excessive pressure with in the head resulting in worn out seals.
