AoA PWers! Hope this post finds you in best of your state.
The query is regarding engine oil for our 2.8 KV generator, which has a weak working engine. It consumes almost a liter of oil in 100 hours of running.
I wanted to ask if we can use local oil in it? I'm talking about the oil which is locally refined in markets, not the packed ones. If not what are the harmful effects?

P. S. We have been using Havoline 20w50 in it since we bought it, and we've been running it on gas.
Regards and thanks

So you got it, we've been running it on gas  But sir I want to ask if I can use local oil(or whatever it's called) in it?

you can use Local Oil.. It burns more quickly then havoline.. there is no rule for chines generator engine OIL... Just check and fill after 15 hours.

OK thanks for the input:)

AOA. I have been using Gas gensets for past 4 years Kohler & B&S.

As these are air cooled, hence have high operating temperature. Manufacturer recommends that you use synthetic motor oil and change it every 100 hrs along with filter.

The same should be true for the smaller engines. Max 100 Hrs. Zic A+

We also used to change oil within 80 to 100 hours period, though it consumed then as well, but this time when I checked it after 100 hours of running, not a drop of oil was there. And it sounded very heavy for the past few hours. We had been feeding the generator with Havoline 20W50. Never experienced synthetic oils.

check oil level before starting..

My brand new chinese 3kva gen consumed around 300-400 ml in 100 hours. So I guess your consumption is okayish.

Your generator should turn off automatically if the oil level is low. Check if your sensor is connected.

It used to turn off but now it won't. BTW where is the sensor placed?

Sensor is yellowish wire
Zic a is best for gens brand new once tried 20 50 gen was not feeking well
i got loncin 2.5kva since April 2010

I use Total 20w40 in my Angel 5KVA Chinese generator. Oil is changed after 80 hours religiously, even if I have to drive at 2am and get it.
860 hours done so far Alhamdulillah, no issues yet.
It consumes about 200-300ML oil after 80 hours. Oil level is inspected every 3rd day. Where is Oil filter located btw?
All the running has been done on gas, except for the first 10 hours- I treated it with Petrol :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay I will check it out. Thanks

860? Feels like yours is newer. Mine has done 1500+ hours. It used to burn oil then as well, but not completely. Feels like it needs tuning now :stuck_out_tongue:

No idea though where the oil filter is located.

People kept on telling me to opt for Honda generators, " China wala sirf 3-4 mahine kaam karta hay bla bla. " This Gen. rocks! Even used it for 18 hours non-stop, no hiccups or any problems. Go Angel!

Btw- Get spark plug inspected and valve clearances, they are the biggest issue.

These Chinese generators are actually good. This is our third one.
