Most mechanic say 800 to 1000 km but i feel this is unfair if i m using a good quality oil it should at least do 1500 to 2000Km like for example if i m using Caltex havoline we can go around 3000 km easily in cars..

The less interval is it bcoz the bike engine is Air cold and demands much better lubrication or its just a crap by our mechanics to change it after 800 ?

well it depndz....but ideally for a bike one shld change the oil aftr evry 1500-2000 kmz...

Well Turbo i can easily afford it after 500 Km but its not about pocket...
If a oil can easily last for 1500 to 2000 Km then why change it after 800 or 1000...

i have asked this to many mechanics and experts no body have a good answer i guess no one is sure if the bike lubrication is different to car or is it same..

Do a practical take a 800cc car and a 1500-1600cc car.
Pour in the same Oil in both cars.
Result: Oil will loose its viscosity at 2000-2500kms in a 800cc car. In a 1500cc/1600cc car you ll see that the oil at around 3000-4000kms has better viscosity then that of the 800cc cars oil at 2000kms.
Reason: Small engines=High Revs=Early wearing of oil.

I had a CD200 and a CD70 both, 200 needed oil change at around 1500kms and the 70 needed at no more then 600-700kms... after that the oil becomes water. High Revs wear it out.

hmmz good point c123pk but still i feel 800 is too early for a good engine oil to be changed..
Honda motorbike user manual says to use there own 20w-40w oil api SF for 1500 km i feel we can use a good 20w-50w sg or above grade oil for 1200 to 1500 kms...

and leme tell u how good this cd 70 engine is a friend have a 93 model honda only the rings are changed and that bike have done 90000 km and its still goin even though he hardly takes care of it..

and once we went to a relative house and he had a old bike standing in garage cd 70 old model we tried to start it and patah chla there is no oil in it so we put some SARSO ka oil hehe and we went to sadar on it the bike worked fine haha

Viscocity of oil after some running of engine is not the measure of oil qaulity & sureity of further lubrication.
I m using Caltex Supreme Five star oil(about which mechnanics says its too thin to be used in bikes specialy in summer) in my CD70 since 1999. I change it after 2000Km & my monthly utilzation is 1200 Km. Since that no maintenace have been demanded by its Engine & total distance covered is about 84000KM.
Atlas Honda's genuine oil made by Total Parco also has same specs as Caltex Supreme(API 20 40W) & Atlas Honda recomend it for 2100Km for CD70 & CG125.

I have CD70 1996 only the Rings & timing chain has been replaced due to the carelessnes of previous owner while after ring change the distance covered is 84000km & total distance covered is 120000Km.
The bike manufacturer also knows that API 20 50W grade oil are available in market but why they r recomending thiner oil for their engine. Definately their is some technical reason behind this.

Actually honda says to u use oil with grade as higher as possible so that means if u can find a api SL or SM oils that will be perfect but these oils are hardly available here and are very expensive.. around 275 per liter..

now honda never says to use only 20-40w they say u can use multi grade oils there is a chart given on honda manual which clearly says to use 20-40w or 20-50w oil for all weather conditions..

Another problem with oils for bike is that cd 70 have a wet plate clutch system means the clutch is dipped in oil so if ur using oil for example synthetic oil that will destroy ur clutch plate in days simply bcoz that oil have a friction resistors and they wont allow a wet clutch system to work properly.. but good thing is most 20w-50 and 40 oils dun have friction resistors... they are found in lower grade oils..

to me u should use atleast 20-50w or 20-40w oil in any bike and interval should be atleast 1500 in summers..

and leme tell u that now in new bikes honda says to use its own oil for cd 70 but change it after 1500 km..

its amazing to see a small engine like honda cd 70 can cover such distance i mean 90000 km for a small bike engine this is allot..
i still rem the 1st time i saw the honda cd 70 piston i couldn't stop laughing still it runs forever..

i saw a program on discovery where they named honda 50 cc bike ultimate bike and they put like 400 kg on that bike then they pushed that bike from 8 floor building and it was still running hehe...
Rock solid..

i have cd 70 . i change oil + tuning at every 2000 km .
and i still feel the engine power as of a new engine. good pick and also low feul consumbtion.
i am using caltex from the begning . and after 2years mechenic says engine is 100% ok.
if you use a good multi grade oil then you can easily run it to 2000-3000 km. regularly take care of fuel filter air filter and spark plug too . and you can run your bike for 80,000 km for sure with out having new rings or piston etc.

bhai i am using havoline.
and my czn is using shell hielex super in his cd 70 and he is changing oil on 4000+kms. i said to him that itna zulm na kero iss per ......and he said kuch nahi hota iss ko
and after 35000km his bike is still runing ok . engine is just like new. good pick and power

thx Omer..

So the conclusion will be we can easily go around 1500 Km with a good engine oil and even go up to 2000 km in winters right guys ?

imranbhatti is right. thinner oil is better but it must be with high quality and branded oil. you are not gonna believe but i am using 5w-30 in my honda 125 and this honda 125 is like a jet some time.
why thinner oil is better it is a long discussion. i,ve read a lot about oils and trust me the thinner the better. but always use higher grade oil like SL, SJ, or CF(see the oil box you will see these words on the back of the box under oil Specs). dont use low quality thinner oil they are gonna ruin your engine.
