Electric Power Steering in 2.0D Saloon 2004

I want to replace the hydraulic power steering of my 2.0D Saloon 2004 Pakistan model with Electric Power Steering.Experts, please advise whether I should go for it or not?All the parts needed are of JDM Corolla X/G 2004-2006 model.Anyone who has done this, please help.

EPS status is monitored via ECU to generate CEL light incase of steering trouble / failure. I'd not recommend swap under 'desi style' Incase of EPS failure & no CEL warning ( check error / engine light ) you end up in disaster.

Does CEL stand for Check Engine Light?And I think the EPS system has its own motor so as per my understanding it is not dependent on Car engine?Am I right?

The present shape Diesel Corollas have EPS installed in them.They too have 2C engine without ECU in the car.The EPS has its own ECU as per my knowledge.I know you are quite in into these things, so I shall be grateful if you find out, how the Indus has managed to install Electric Power Steering in the present shape Diesel Corollas without the Main ECU?If you can find out the diagrams of Pak Diesel Corolla with EPS?I am also looking into it, if I find anything I will let you know and take your advice.

To simplify things..Like they are in EPS cars.And to relieve engine of a little load of running Hydraulic Pump.In Present shape Indus Diesel Corollas, EPS is already there with the same 2C engine as is in my 2004 Diesel Corolla.

EPS is an electric motor for steering assistance and there is pulse feed from EPS to THE ECU which activate / generate error for CEL in case of EPS failure. - Please check ECU type in 2D models having an EPS as you referred. so far I have not seen any 2D in current shape of Corolla by Indus motors in Pakistan

Current shape of 2.0D has EPS, but there would have been some extra circuitry for it. Usually, High Speed Power MOSFETs are used to switch the motor of EPS. For gating of MOSFETs, there must be a gate control circuit.

people even with non efi mehran's and altos are getting it installed. i thought its quiet common now
but yeah u would never know if there is error code, and it would not be getting stiff with speed etc

my 94 xe 2.5 lac km's done has after market hyd power steering.it has never bothered us

@AmeerUsman do you mean the current shape of altis gli & xli, Indus is selling Corolla 2D as well ?? is there a Corolla diesel in 2011, 12???. I do not see any 2d on their website.

Yes capsat, they have sold Diesel Corollas in this shape too.But have discontinued since 2012 as for as I remember.But there are Cars in this shape with Diesel 2C engine.

I intended to purchase one in 2012 but it was not available as told Toyota GT motors Rawalpindi. Anyway I mean to say that 2008 to 2011 like current shape (without face lift) or some with facelift 2011-12, all 2.0Ds have this EPS. Though very few 2.0Ds or 2.0D saloons/SR are available in 2011 ~ 2012 models.

Thank you @ameerusman & @doctor saheb. I admit I was totally clueless for 2D production after 2009 seems very less population of 2.D on roads or may be people put up GLI XLI monograms to avoid car being stolen.

am really feeling bad how in the name of diesel sedan I missed Indus Corolla 2.0D in new shape and looking around asking CrashD & Sharabhi for a used diesel sedan from UK / Japan.

for the monogram change i read it on this very forum in a thread ( in 2010 ~ 2011) when corolla 2D was considered hot for snatching & gate-break stealing

haven't heard of such a bad idea in a while,i found hps of 9th gen corolla to be satisfactory,I am pretty sure he is using wrong tyres which would necessitate an effort to turn the wheel

Back in 2004, when I bought it from Toyota.It came with General Tyres which I used for almost 3 years.Then I tried Yokohama Aspec DB once and Yokohama A Drive twice and now a days my car has Yokohama A Drive 185/70 R14.

usually, speed sensor, rpm are the only inputs to the ECU of EPS, its a doable project. no problem at all. The unit has its own circuitry installed on it. This EPS is so damn rugged that I have hardly seen any in a jammed state. The thing is that the motor assist adjusts itself after judging the speed of the car. It will be hard / less sensitive at 100km/h and more sensitive at 30km/hr which it does so after taking in the inputs from rpm and VSS
