Easy or Hard to get Pakistani Driving License?

Dear members, I'm planning to visit Pakistan very soon (Karachi and Islamabad). I was thinking to apply for a driving license but before doing that I would like to ask some questions on this thread which are as following:

1) How many days on average will it take me to get a license? (including all the tests).
2) What documents are required?
3) What would be the fee?

it depends...
if u want the 'najaiz' but popular way.... within 1 day.. (just pay the agent.. get a pic taken.. wait for couple of hours and u r done)

but the proper method takes time... u'll need a learner first... then apply for the licsence.. they take an oral test, if u pass that, small driving test (in ur own car).. basically parallel parking... if u clear that too (not easy if u r not paying rishwat... the cones r very close, indicators, mirrors etc..).. if u clear that too.. same day (but couple of hours)..

if u fail, come again. i tried the proper way.. failed 3 times but eventually cleared.. lols.. dont have any idea about the fees nowadays, but its not too much... (under 2000 i think)

Ahan you mentioned about something "Najaiz" which would mean NO tests at all? where will I get the agent from? I just want it as soon as possible because my stay would be for small duration.

ul get the learning licence the same day, may in an hour (more or less depends on the que)

i guess its Rs. 150 the learning fee. but keep a 200 in mind, as post office fees Rs2-4 for forms etc and ul need some pics aswell

theres a eye test for it. (included in the licence fee)

Then theres a 40 days time to get ur Permanent Licence, if u have some kinda jugar or wana bribe them around 2.5 to 3k kharcha (depends upon how u negotiate) required with a 5 year licence (Rs300 per year licence fee Rs1500) rest is the rishwat, token fees, forms fees this and this

. and ul get ur licence then next day u apply for.

If u dont have jugar and dont wana bribe them, ul have to go thru all the fomalities and a driving test

for the permanent licence u have to go thru

eye test
driving test
arrows (road signs test)
and a true and false test

PS: u cannot get a licence without geting a learner licence first and wait for 40 days. no matter what ever the jugar u have.

Oh so you mean I need to have a learning license first? then only I can get a proper license?

police people are involved in it, other then that wen u go to the licence office there are agents roaming around. they contact u them selves. the jugar thing saves time and saves u from geting in lines thats it.

sara kam normaly hoga u have to go one day full fill the formalities the next day u get ur licence.

even if u get it made normaly there arnt issue any more. if ure on the right side all ur documentation is complete and u belive ur a gud driver get ur licence made normaly.

personaly i wont recomend u to give bribe. coz v are the ones who promote give and take of bribe. if any one asks you for bribe u can strait away complain.

but i wont lie either i paid Rs500 bribe to get my work done without stops and waiting and thats bcoz i couldnt stand in lines as i cant i have university and office 6 days a week i cant afford missiing office or university.

If you have UAE driving license you can use it here. Be sure to have an international permit to be on the right side of things. And for any vehicle you drive make sure you have the authority letter. Nowadays traffic police is not as active as ACLC etc. are and more emphasize is on documentation of vehicle rather than documentation of driver.

But there is one disadvantage of foreign license. You need driving license to enter cantt area (any one) and if don't have one you can't take your car inside, but can enter on foot using your ID card.

get a learner's licence first,wil take 2 hours MAX.ul need ur original id card n a copy,that it,then u can go after 2 weeks for a test n ur test gets arpproved ul get the license

i guess learner license k liay kuch nae krna parta just go there n have tests n stuff..
learner is given to u without any driving test or stuff but its valid for some months n wen u go for proper licnese ull have to clear tests...like signal's test n trust me its difficult becuz some of the signals u never see on roads n maybe never will..lol
n if u clear tht ull have to drive a car in eithr L shape turngoin forwad n then inreverse n mind it the CONES r very near n u need to b perfect ..touchin the copne means rejected n ull have to come again aftr a week or so...
n they might ask u to park parallel,,,thts also not easy.
n if u clear all tht...
ull get license same day with some hour wait...
n trust me bohat rush hota hy try to b there early or ull wait there for quite some time...

they provide you with a book with all the signs, before u have to appear for the test, the signs are from that bk only. so its not a big deal.

I remember a guy, he paid around PKR 4000 something. Later agent called him to come for a photograph, and that was it.
He even didn't had to wait, and couple weeks later he got his license.

I wonder how did that happen.

O meray bhai, ye kis nay kaha k Pakistani license k through u will get help for a UAE license!!!! Its not a big issue to have a UAE license, sirf gari insano ki trha drive kerna ani chahiye or kutch traffic signs ka pata hona chahiya,
UAE license k liay meray bhai ko itni museebat nahi hui jitni license issue honay k baad hui!

If you want to contact any agent, just go to any driving license branch & pose urself that u r new, as soon as u reach the gate, one or 2 agents will "catch" you....

Sorry for asking a question in your thread, I dont want to start a new thread asking just this one question. Can I drive on my british license in karachi ? I heard that you can drive upto six months or do I have to get an international driving permit ? Thanks

I was looking for some information regarding driving license in Pakistan and found this forum very useful.

I made my learner license in 2008 and soon after that I moved to Singapore. Now I am going to Pakistan next month, for some time and I plan to get driving license from there. Can you please tell me if I can renew my learning driving license (2008) and get permanent driving lisence immediately after the tests (i.e. without waiting period of 42 days)? or will i be required to make new learner license first?

Also for booking the driving tests and theory tests (and for re-tests if fail) is there some waiting time (e.g. few days or weeks) or is it immediate?

What are the possibilities of getting a legal driving license without the two tests i.e. with money talk? and which place is easier for this karachi or Islamabad?
