Yes that ribbon sealer by 3M or any equal. In this case on mercedes benz they use rubber cement. Its recommended to clean the adhesive off the metal then apply it fresh everytime. - Cheap accountants at MB.
The caulking is reusable as long as its not dirty and is on all japanese cars, Its very good, infact the old 80s Honda Accords and Civics used a very thick plastic sheet (20 mil) and used the 3M ribbon sealer with a thin string in it too - It was then recommended to aim a hair dryer at the sheet and press it in where the door pockets would bulge inwards to stretch the sheet.
In Pakistan rubber cement aka samad bond can be used (it stinks tho) if one is living in a rural type area where one cannot find the ribbon sealer. A cheap version of the sealer can be had at car A/C shops - they use it on the firewall plugs when doing retrofitting.
I would like to add that if your car has side air bags in the doors like mine in the picture above, DO NOT cover the air bag unit with the plastic. Thats why this model has half a sheet, older models which lacked air bags had a full sheet, even the same model rear doors with airbags use the half sheet while the ones without the air bag use a full sheet from top to bottom.
