Does all Japanese imported cars have Grades?

Salam,

I've been following few sellers of Japanese cars on Pakwheels until, recently I came across one seller who on asking about his car grade said that,"My car does not have any auction grade, as I have self imported the car and not got it from auction house". He further created a question in my mind that is it true that only cars set on auction in Japan carry a grade (aka auction grade), also are there two types of cars being imported, one with auction grade and one without.

I wonder if seller is hiding car details by not conveying auction grade or it could really be possible not to have any auction grade.

Anyone here who knows exactly how this auction-import process works. Appreciate help from those who do these dealings on and off.

Most of the dealers who say that their car doesn’t have an auction sheet are actually selling accidental vehicles.

But, not every other car is bought off the auction house...right? so the concern is that auction grades are must for all imported cars or not?

Majority of the cars exported from Japan are sold in auctions, so a car with an authentic auction sheet is the one to go for.

Anyone here on Pakwheels, who get cars via Transfer of residence, Gift or under baggage scheme and not bought his car from auction would be able to confirm exactly on this concern.

Wa Alaikum Salam. Let me share my idea:
Generally, cars imported in Pakistan come through auctions / bidding in auction houses in Japan and they have Grades.
I think Grades are a must for every vehicle auctioned through auction houses.
If some dealer / importer is not showing auction sheet, something fishy may be there.
One rough way of verification can be to get the chassis no. of the vehicle you intend to purchase, and then get that chassis no. searched on websites which provide auction sheets, their details and their verification.
Pakwheels also provide auction sheet verification services.
If something gets shown, then auction sheet may be there.
If nothing gets searched / shown, then vehicle may have come in Pakistan through some other means / schemes.

Could be a genuine person who bought the car from an individual rather than buying it at an auction house. But if you are buying it simply note the chassis number and search it on many online verification website. You do need to pay of course to get the auction sheet verified but this way you can tell if it exists or not. If it does shows then he is lying if it doesn't then he may be a genuine person after all but its better to get a car with an auction sheet as you get a complete peace of mind

I understand that Auction sheet is a must to verify a imported car. But, I'm clarifying here that any japanese car imported in pakistan does not necessarily purchased from auction, someone may purchase a japanese car right off japanese showroom or from a japanese local living there. Now such cars will or will not have any grades?

There are ungraded car from auction too. The auction sheet says ungraded in Japanese.

Did you get the chasis no. from seller as suggested by the members above?

I'd rather go for an auction graded car. It is always doubtful to get a car without auction grade as I may not be able to know exactly what major issues the car had.

I have only this year started to learn about JDM cars and their grades, and found that a good purchase is to go for Auction grade 4 or above.
