Salam to all. Just wanted to get some expert advise.
I have a 97 vti, and i swapped the engine because of a previously messed up block.
The engine installed currently is a D-15B as per the code on the block. After some research i have found out there should be 2 vtec solenoids instead of one (because this is a 3-stage vtec engine). To my suprise, either soleniod is not visible.
My questions is
1. whether if there is a D-15b engine without vtec.
2. If this was a v-tec, is it possible to remove the solenoid and the engine still running perfectly.
3. Can i install solenoids if available in shershah market?
4. Do i have to have the correct Ecu (P28/ P08) for peak performance. how to verify which ecu is installed.

Thanks so much.

Bhai Vtec is written on the engine because they used my old tappet cover, which comes with vtec written on it, in a vti.

i think you have non vtec head.Post some pics and we can comform u.

Question 1:
Yes. According to wikipedia1, the D15b3 is the one you're looking at.

Question 2:
Well it wouldn't run "normally" but I refuse to believe that the engine wouldn't run at all. I think you'd have to look at your fuel consumption to see if the engine was doing alright or not. Though in this case, you'd definitely be getting some misfires or something indicating a problem.

Question 3:
Khi members would know better than me

Question 4:
Okay I may not know much about Honda engines, but i DO know that if the right ECU isn't installed, then the engine would refuse to even turn on. So if your car is running and is giving you good fuel consumption figures, then the right ECU is definitely installed.
Regarding finding out where the ECU is, it's normally supposed to be in the middle console below the heater and A/C controls... No idea about the Pakistani variants, though there shouldn't be any difference as per my knowledge. Hondas, and for that matter most Japanese cars, are pretty easy to take apart- all you need is a flat-head screw driver to take off some panels and you can get to the ECU.

@611: I dont know. I will post pics soon.
@ Bilal TQ: Yes according to wikipedia, it should be a D15B3, but my engine only states D15B, so is the 3 missing, or does this vary internally while the code always reads D15B??
Also, the fuel average is not all that great. It's somewhat around 7-8km/Ltr since its an auto.

Also, can anyone tell me whether if transmissions are compatible, when you swap engines....lets say D15B with a D16Z...would the tranny work perfect.

I will upload pics in a little bit.

Here are some images from under the hood.
I have included some closeups of where the solenoid is supposed to be.

In the last pic, there are two solenoids, but these are located towards the bask side of the radiator, which as per the local mechanic is the for the transmission.

Again back to square one, is there a D15B non-vtec, Efi engine???

Question1:
well there is D15b that's Non-vtec the one which comes in 96+exi's the one u have might b the same 1 since u replace the Tapet cover with ur previous i guess u should have a look at the original 1 that came wid the engine if u still have dat if there is Only HONDA Embeded on it then ur using the non-vtec d15b if there is Honda V-tec embeded on it then ur having the v-tec d15b
Question2:
did u changed the whole setup r just the block if u have just swapped the block wid a Kabli 1 and didn't changed the harness ecu etc then it is possible dat ur car will start and run coz the D'series works wid 1 another but u'll have engine check lights on & the v-tec wont work properly and the d15b3 every 1's talking abt is the carby 1 dat came in pre 95 civics it has the b3 code while the efi's have the b code
Question3:
don't knw much abt solenoids but i guess the single stage v-tec had 1 and may b the three stage had 2 Wiring experts could guide u better
Question4:
Again if u have the JDM d15 b then i guess u have to use the PO8 the Ecu in these models is located in the front passenger side right next to the door under the glove box u just have to unbolt a couple of screws from the fat panel and u'll c ur ecu check the code it will b written on the side of ECU

@reddevils: Are you sure that this same engine is implanted in the domestic Exi....because i was told this is the JDM engine and they said this is the 1.5vtec engine.
Also, how can i tune it to crank it all the way to 130HP as stated on the websites.

This is wat a D15b Non-vtec efi Looks lyk from the top though the intake Mainfold is changed

In this pic u can see wat JDM d15b v-tec luks lyk

@shrm1
yup the D15b Non-vtec do comes in the local Exi's as well as the JDM Exi's so it can b JDM but it may b non-vtec but i would ask again did u changed the whole setup as a whole i mean the Wiring Ecu Gearbox etc r just replaced the block?
About the crank well doing that with the stock Crank i don't think its possible unless u fumble with the Ecu though u can advance the Stock Cam timing to get it a bit agressive but again that's too complicated 4 me 2 remember

From What i see in the pictures i guess u have just swapped the block of a D15b inplace of ur D16 so if u have done dat then there will b definetly wiring issues and am not gud at it at all so i'll leave it 2 the more experienced members May b @moak89 @N20 @SER_GTR & others will help u out

@Reddevil: Yar i dont know what they changed. I believe he changed the complete engine, as i got the number changed on the book....but i am aware that the number is on the block, so it could be that as well.
Can you tell me where i can get a nice pair of headers from and at what price.
Also, is there a local shop, where i can get the head machined around 40000th of an inch???

@shrm1
Well U should have at least knw abt wat he was changing Khair i'll leave it to the more experienced members 2 help u out and abt the Headers etc incase u haven't noticed my location am not in karachi so don't knw wat r the prices and from where 2 get the things done Locals will help u out but i can advice u on the Head Shaving r Machining as u may call it 2 do it From some Gud place and do it evenly r else u'll b luking at another weak engine in just a matter of months r even weeks

@reddevils: Thanks so much for your inuput. I didnt realize you are not from Karachi, until you pointed it out :|(Y)(Y)

@reddevil: Nothing too amusing. Just felt like a no brainer that i started asking you about prices and availability without reading your location.

Hello!
Tell Me From Where You Get All This DOne...?? Mech? Where

Well This Looks D15B Complete Assembly To Me Running On D16 ECU And Harness....!!

There Exist Two EFi D15's....One Is VTEC One Is NON-VTEC...!

Your One Looks VTEC To Me.....In VTEC there Exist Two Also

2 Stage VTEC......3 Stage VTEC

Well If You Won't See Any VTEC Solenoid...Chances Are It Might Be Removed Since Local's Don't Care Whats That....!! Still It Runs But VTEC Won't Be Working And Check Light Might Show On....!!
Here I Know PPl Running Cars From Months/Year Without Knowing VTEC working Or Not :stuck_out_tongue:
So Go Ask Mech...What He Have DOne....I Am Sure He Swapped Inn D15B JDM Assembly Either 2 Stage VTEC Or 3 Stage ...Working With Your Old D16 ECU And Harness.....!!
If Its That So...Get You VTEC Solenoid Fixed And Wire It Up....!!
Hope It Helps.....!!

Regards
