In the procedure you mentioned why dont we drain the CVT oil when its hotter as it expands on heating so we would be able to get max amount of the CVT fluid out then let it cool to room temperature. When its cool measure its volume and add back the same volume of CVT at room temperature. I know you stuck to OEM procedure just asking to know if this would do any harm?

Dear....as already stated by TypeA, you can't find anyone even the 3S. I also stated cautiously in my article about 3S inabilities.

You try finding intelligent mechanic who is patient enough to listen and understand the procedure and then patience to do it.

If it was so routine, I would have not bothered to write the procedure in such detail.

1. When hot then taking out ..... Well total quantity is 7.5 in CVT system, hardly 33% comes out by draining. When hot slightly it would be more but not significant. Secondly, it will take very long time to cool. Thirdly, you have to do three drain and fill, so imagine how much time it will take. So do it cold, life will be easy and it'll be fast.

2. There are so many variables, simple measurement WON'T work or let me say MEASUREMENT CAN'T GUARANTEE THE CORRECT LEVEL.

You have to fill it to correct level and have to be 100% correct - no chances to be taken.

BTW, the OEM method is most "quick" and "accurate". If any other method used may be quick BUT NOT accurate!

Correct me if i am wrong. In the method as stated By you in the end during fluid temperature and level adjustment If the temperature is in between 35-45 i should open the drain nut right? And if in case the temperature exceeds 45 degrees i am supposed to turn the car off till the fluid cools down and do the same things again? Lastly why do this step when already every time i drained the fluid i am putting the same amount in back?

1. Yes, 35C to 45C is the right Temp to CORRECT the fluid level. But make sure to know the temp but by the method stated above.

2. The first two steps are just drain-and-fill, you hardly operate the engine for 30 sec x 2 times. The reason for measuring and pouring back the exact amount is meant to be not too off. The level will surely be off but reasonable enough to only run engine for 30 sec for two times and not reasonable to operate the car for 2 years or 55k km. In final step you CORRECT it to the Exact level.

Type A I'll strongly urge to not do this. The use of temperature laser gun or any such technique is not good for the reason:
The surface temperature will be misleading as it always lags the internal temp. So you might be reading say 40 and the temp inside might be very high.

Grande does not have dipstick. For other models I'll discourage such attempt for many reasons: dipstick is generally twisted and you may break and lose the thermometer inside, also contamination may occur, also you may not get true temp.

And BTW for temp measurement you don't need any thing special, only a piece of wire needed (plz see the procedure) so no need to go for "difficult" and "unreliable" ways.
