Correct Oil Grade for Swift

I’m sorry but i had to bring the oil topic up again . I’m currently using SGO 5w30 in my swift which is a semi synthetic oil , i was planning to go for total 5w30 from the next oil changes as many pakwheelers recommended . Car is driven 30k on 10w 40 and now it’s on 34k and due for an oil change . I’ve been using 5w30 as i said and have experienced NO oil consumption. My question is that the manual clearly says to pour 10w40 for temps above 40 degrees and if i start using 5w30 would it be bad for engine health ? I also drive the car to its full potential so will the thin oil damage the engine health long term .I live in karachi where the weather often reaches 40 degrees and goes above 40 too in summers and it’s very polluted and dusty so i think 5w30 isn’t sufficient ??? I’ve seen many swift owners pouring 5w40 or 10w40 or thicker but never seen someone pouring 5w30 grade. i didn’t see an improvement in switching to 5w30 from 10w40 though . So should i go with total 5w30 from this point on or shell 5w40 or some other better brand .And if i decide to move to 5w40 from here onn then should i use an engine flush because i didn’t use it before when i switched from 10w40 to 5w30 i’ve heard mixed reviews about engine flushes. IMO, and in your particular case, I would say NO. Fully synthetic 5w-30 won't be bad for your engine.

If this is the case, then prefer 10w-30 by Caltex / Havoline, or 10w-40 fully synthetic by ZIC.

Just ensure that oil is authentic.

Nope, these things do not matter IMO, irrespective 5w-30 or 10w-40.

May be, its due to 5w-30 semi synthetic by Suzuki. If you'll use 5w-30 fully synthetic by Total, then you might feel some difference.

As you have said that you drive the car to its full potential, prefer 10w-30 / 10w-40, instead of 5w-30 / 5w-40.

In your particular case, it won't bring any harm. Still, now I am convinced and of the opinion that engine flushes are unnecessary and may not be used, unless / until they are absolutely necessary (which does not seem in your particular case).

First of all thanksss for the detailed reply , okay i’ll try total 5w30 in the next oil change and observe how my engine responds and yes i won’t be needing an engine flush cus i’ll be using the same grade and switching brand . I basically have read on some pages that xyz performance cars recommend a slightly thicker oil for track days but in my particular case i obviously don’t need a thicker grade right ? And i basically don’t wanna try 10w30 grade or zic brand , i personally would rather put total or shell . What are ur comments on manual recommendations about using 40 grade in temps around 40 and 30 in lower temps ?

Bro use 5w30. No problems. One of my friends even uses 0w20 in his 2016 swift. It runs absolutely fine. Go for total quartz 9000 5w30.

Definitely, Total, Shell, and Caltex / Havoline are better than ZIC and Kixx. Still, in their own capacity, ZIC and Kixx are not that bad either.

IMO, if driving the vehicle under normal driving conditions (and not extreme conditions or testing the vehicle up to its limits), I think 5w-30 would suffice, irrespective of outside temperature.

If you could see in the manual, they have also written that 0w-20 can also be used if fuel efficiency is the concern, and good cold start ups, but then, why did not they mention it in the chart too?

They could have also mentioned this 0w-20 with temp. ranges in the chart too.

i just have one last question , i’m planning a road trip to go from karachi to lahore in nov , so what do u recommend i go on total 5w30 right . ill leave around 4 in the morning and reach lahore in a day around 11 or 12 .

Put in total 5w30. If you're embarking on such a long journey, I reckon you keep an extra bottle of 1 liter total quartz 9000 5w30 in the trunk. You haven't used this oil before, if there is consumption you'd have back up, InshAllah there won't be any to baad mai kaam ajaega wo oil . Better be safe than sorry. Other than that, check all tyres, check the spare too. Ensure that the car has coolant in it and that there is a t-stat valve installed, fan should never be direct. Have a safe trip.

oks noted ill carry an extra 1 ltr bottle , i am using this grade SGO semi synthetic and have observed no oil consumption, suzuki 3s filled it above the max mark somehow and it’s still on that same mark . I think if it didn’t consume SGO semi synth then ill be good with total fully synth right . i just need to find a good pump to buy the original oil though .

If located in DHA, you can opt for GariParts in DHA Phase 2. They might overcharge slightly (100, 150), but they won't sell you any fake stuff. Other than that, the Total pump in DHA Phase 1 (McDonald's wala) is a good place for an oil change and service.

I think the one near karsaz? My friend used to go there for car service. It's on shahrah e faisal so it might company operated, if it is you'd get genuine oil from there.

Both are Great! but it depends on your affordability and buying power.

If I had to choose for, I would choose the cheapest of fully synthetic 5w-30 but from some reputed brands, and in these 2 options; Total being cheaper and widely available (rightly pointed out by other fellow member).
