I need help from Corolla owner brothers..

Please advise that which Corolla XLI has a better fuel consumption..
is it
Corolla 2003-2008
or 2009 on wards model

Logically speaking 2009 onward should be more fuel efficient but people praise the old generation corolla ( 2003-2003)too much.. Is it true that that model was more fuel efficient and the new one is not due to low power to weight ratio??

please rate the model only on the base of fuel consumption.

Thanks

My 2004 XLI gives me 17km/kg with 70% a/c and driving in karachi city with light foot

Well i had a 2005 gli it was giving me 12-13km/liter in city with AC and my 2010 gli gives me 10-11km/liter also AC in city....i wll advise u to go with a 2006 gli or xli as the power to weight ratio is even .......the 2009 up models are underpowered it is the reason for heavy consumption......The milge is given is with lightfoot.....

Dear I am owing both Corolla's 2007 Xli with CNG and 2009 XLi without CNG. Both are with genuine tyre size.
2007 corolla XLi is excellent on CNG. It gives 120km with Ac on 8.5kg CNG filled. But on petrol it's very bad coz its rpm is set on 1100 which disturbs its fuel consumption. So my car do 8km/l.
2009 corolla XLi is doing 11.5 - 12.5 km/l on petrol without Ac and with Ac 10.5 - 11.5km/l.
Its average on highway it is same due to full truck with luggage and full 5 seats occupied.

Bro your Gli is not performing well my Gli 2010 Totally on Petrol gives me 17km/l in City without AC and 16km/l with AC in City.Yesterday changed its Engine oil to Caltex 10W 30 and used a Leppon Oil Filter. Before i was using Petromin 20w 50 and in City i was getting 13.9/14km/l.Now i am very happy with its consumption.

this gen of corolla dsnt perform well when it comes to economy, ive got one my self
what helped me in getting better economy is long ram air intake kit ,oem plugs & hypermilling.max ive done is 13.5km/l
on a daily basis i get 9-10 km/l
n on high rpm use it drops to 7.5-8km/l

the 9th gen n the 10th gen are v different when it comes to economy,10th gen engine is squeezed to give economy,it has no power ,this is not the case with 9th gen as 9th gen performs good but eonomy is bad

which oil do u use?
is the service done on time?
throttle,intake manifold etc?
which plugs do u use?
how do u drive?

i hv 2010 xli, now its consumption has lowered to 9.5 km/L. i went to toyota motors as car was giving start up problems, thay gave me solution to replace all plugs, air filters and carboretor cleaning. i did all but same problems of low mileage and start up

I have 2007 model without cng. On long route it gives maximum 15kmpl with AC @100-100km/h and with heavy foot it gives 11kmpl.

Pretty Insane stuff being said here.
2002-2008 corolla gives me 10 in city and 12 on motorway with Ac.
2008+ is vvti version hence gives more got 13 in city with ac no idea abt long.

Secondly its always been a trend to bad mouth newer models.

There are 3 problems in 2008+ xli/corolla
1)On CNG its not good as old model
2)A bit underpowered then old one, it only matters when you intend to do drag races lol.
3) they complain abt less ac cooling, to me thats a myth or due to not cleaning/replacing ac filter.

If you intend to drive on Petrol 2008+ Xli(not cnged) is the one IHMO.

Qwertypoiu, your third point..... I took out my sister's brand new 1.3 GLi from Toyota showroom in 2010 and I felt it's A/C wasn't too good. Now you can't say it had anything wrong or bad. I mentioned it to Rozzzzz who had a GLi like your Corolla and his words were, 'the third level of new Corolla's A/C cools as much as second of the previous' and I found him to be correct.

The newer AC systems with RF134a or HFO-1234yf refrigerants do not cool as well as the older R-12 based systems. They need properly sized components to cool effectively, but the newest designs try to save too much weight and cost to reduce the impact on fuel economy.

So you do agree with my experience, correct?

Sir jee....the pick up and AC of 2008+ xli/Gli are worst ever...older models are better in both these functions.

I have kept both on CNG i.e. xli 2006 and xli 2010 both stock, xli 2006 giving 180+- kms in local w/o AC with light foot while 2010 xli giving 150 in local w/o AC with light foot, now compare both. AC of 2006 is best no doubt comparing with 2010, pick of 2006 is also good 2010 feels sluggish some time. Never checked on petrol.
