CNG(CYLINDER) is veryyyy dangerous

cng cylinder ARE VERY DANGEROUS especially in smalll cars ..when someone hit from the back so theres a chance for the car to burst...i had a experience today...the cylinder saved to burst thank GOD to save my life....i was in my khyber and charade hitted me from the back very badly...i really was saved....every body said this that the car could burst out..so man this is the real problem with the cng in smmalll carsssssssssss....

no way man, its just ur fear , i have seen many severe collosions ,kabhie nahi howa k cylinder phut jaye ya agg lug jaye, aik accident may car hit hoyi front or back say, cng kit was broken in two pieces lakin koi agg nahi lagi, hit say cylider b nahi phutha, i think wid standard cylinder u dont have to fear this, and new fitting racks for cylinders r realy awsome,

its possible with LPG cyl but No way for CNG....they are made of steel and can filled up with High pressure gas...so they are designed for the purpose...so no way for blasting....i have seen severe accidents that car was totally crashed but cylinder was on its way...no damage.....so be don't worry...yeah worry if having LPG cylinder..they are really dangerous

Hi no fear with genuine cyllinders, if in doubt get your's tested. There have been one or two odd incidents invloving locally made cyllinders which have been taken off the market, CNG is quite safe.

If u r living in Pindi/Islamabad, i cant tell u of a denter dealing with Total loss/accidented cars(smashed/bashed up)....The only thing u will find intact in these cars is the cylinders dude.2 healthy guys are needed to lift a cylinder by the way.UNless ur cylinder was made by special request by gujranwala,i guess ur safe : )

in reply the person above i would like to tell him that lpg cylinder are far more safer then cng cylinder for the following reasons
*its a liquid gas unlike cng which is compressed
*its an international reading that busrsting power of cng is 500 bars whiles lpg cylinder have 13 to 15 bars
*in lpg cyolinder there is sfety valve its means in any case if there is collision or expansion of gas exceed it limits ,the gas is discharged from safety valve so my friend i dont see any reason why u said lpg is dangerous

Shimrick, I liked your scientific arguments regarding the bursting of CNG or LPG Cylinders and would like to know more about safety systems in a CNG Cylinder.
While quoting examples is also good, compression inside the cylinder at the time of collision and its impact on its bursting or catching fire needs more explanation. And whether the quantity of CNG (or LPG for that matter) in a cylinder at the time of collision will have any bearing on the results.

A quality CNG cylinder is most unlikely to burst by a collision. One of my friend has seen a demo movie where they fired AK-47 shots at an Italian made cylinder and it remained intact. Then it was invloved in a severe collision but still remained intact. A CNG cylinder has a useful life of upto 200 years if properly maintained.
But plz get ur cylinder inspected every 5 years because being made of steel (not stainless steel), it is prone to corrosion specially in humid areas like coastal towns.
There is a safety valve (if installed) which shuts off the cng in case outflow is abnormal/too high; this reduces the risk of cng catching fire. But i have seen where a corolla turned turtle and caught fire beneath the hood. Maybe there was not safety valves installed to save a few bucks at the time of cng installation; which proved expensive.

Well, u survived its great dear. CNG cylinders are safe. They bear around 200 psi pressure. Did you know what is the pressure of a bullet fired from a gun?..... Just 5 psi...now you can easily understand how strong they are....in fact, the fuel tank (petrol) is more dangerous than a cng cylinder.

My personal story is that I lost my dearest cousin in car accident because of Pertol catching fire after car truned turttle. Life is a risk in it self.

well my brother told u all about cng cylinders ,i like to add that lpg cylinder and cng cylinder are inspected by government of pakitan before used for marketing purpose,secondly in lpg there is always 20 to 15 percent space for expansion,thirdly lpg gave u more milage then cng within same quantity,info can be given if required

i haven't converted my car either orn cng nor in lpg ,put i would prefer lpg in near future because govt of pakistan have allowed lpg filling sation and INSHALLAH in jan 2006 there would be more skid units of lpg,rightnow the lpg is filled by decanting which is very dangerous,anyway i learnt on net that lpg increases engine lifes and the pick of car is not reduced too much as compare to cng(any curious should consult internet)lpg gas which is also called(autogas)is used in all the developed countries llike uk australia china america but nodoubt there quantity is less,even in bangladesh and india lpg gas is used

lpg gas (whos pressure is perfect)can make ur car run more smotthly like patrol
and find in jomshoro(pakistan)have a good pressure

Bro cng is dangerous my aunt, her husband and mother in law passed away when they were goin hyd from karachi car burst and they all were burned and died​
