Changing tyres interval

Hello all,

I replaced the stock tyres on my Hyundai Santro with Dunlop Lemans tyres. They are now nearing 50,000 kilometers in running. I am not sure when I should get them changed considering that the alignment/balancing guy still tells me that the tyres are good.

Please keep in mind that most of my driving is in Islamabad.

Usually 40,000km is enough. They may look ok by their patterns but tyre walls get weak.

same what i want to ask,my Corolla XLi in its mid 48K Kms with stock General Tyres and I m going to change them as soon as I will reach 50K Kms,which tyre to choose?

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think stock tyres last more then 10,000 km

My experience with Dunlop Lemans has been pretty good. But I have heard that Michelin, Yokohama, & Goodyear are better tyres in terms of quality.

well it depends on the condition of your tires. I replaced stock tires of our Baleno at 55,000km and changed the stock tyres of my father's double cabin (which were bridgestone) at 85000km. We used both cars regularly on long routes and offcourse within the city and trust me nothing happened it just depends how you use it :). 50,000 is the right time to change but you can drag them to 60 or 70 k as well but then dont travel on motorway

@aesthete: what do you mean stock tires don't last more then 10,000.. Do you burnout everytime you take your car out of garage, My Stock tires are 25,000 Now, and i don't feel any difference in them, as they still are as good as new.

DISCLAIMER: By stock tyres, I mean the inferior quality General tyres that come with all Pakistani cars. I am sorry for the confusion.

I think we are all in agreement that these tyres lack any sort of quality that would make them dependable. I believe that these are dangerous tyres in terms of handling and road grip, not to mention the screeching noise they make at every little turn!

here are few pics of tyre wear indicators. If these indicators are level with the tyre thread it is time to change tyres. And remember never use tyres older 5 years on the cars. The reason the tyres get damaged with age too, and can be dangerous.

if you change them at 50k , you are doing it at the right time.. coz you dont have to wait for one of the tyres to burst to get new ones...you have had the best of them... and you they will still fetch you 500 rs per tyre atleast..when you go in for new ones...

if the tread is ..ok .. and soft
the sidewalls hav not got cracks (ozone cracks)
and they are not bent...

you can still manage 20 more k...
with the loss of reliability, compromise in handling, and chances of burst

but you should keep them properly inflated.. coz the sidewalls are weaker now...

i have got dunlop sp70 on my car and they have done more than 60 k.. tread is still good.. n soft, tyres r not bent... but there are sum ozone cracks developing in the sidewalls...

Yea i also heard that tyres should be change after 1 lack kms ???

And one of my relatives also change his ride,s tyre after 1 lack km done on his stock 2001 VTi Oriel. And he don't face any problem yet concerning about tyres.

see wts the indicated thread wear number

tyres with thread wear 180 may last only 15K compared to thread wear 400 lasting 50K or more

@aesthete so bhai you did say that stock General tyre doesnt last more than 10K KMS,here I have to say STOP BURNOUT AND DRIVE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON.
