HI

I have few questions regarding my bike SP-70

1- As a regular chain maintenance, should i use oil or grease or both on my bike chain. or should I not use any thing. if use oil will it be mobile oil as engine oil or some other?

2- minor fuel is leaking from mixture setting screw threads and some from the punched pin on carburetor.




3- carb gasket is taking air what is the solution. I installed two times new. silicon RTV gets sticky if I use on it, facing of the place where gasket fits is fine.

4- Spark plug thread were slipped earlier, it got bush fitted by machine shop. now because of bush plug seats a little far from inside head. is there a long type plug which i can use. what number in NGK? currently I use NGK C7HSA

5- which engine oil would you recommend. I need with a cleaning effect

for 1: use old engine oil on weekly basis.. or after a ride in rainy day. use chain cover ..

2: for leak at mixture screw remove the screw and check the spring .. for leak at the other place use magic depoxy at suitable place .. this type of issue is common in low quality carbs ..

3: which side of carb gasket is sucking air ? make sure that the mating surface are flat..

4: i am also plaged by this issue . i had made a thread some times ago. search that .. also i am using normal plug. i have iridium one will let you know once i test it thoroughly.. for the time being use current one.

5:yar diffucult question .. use castrol active 4t 20w50 but there is a lot of 2 number .. next i would recmed ax5 of shell then havoline..

2- for leak in mixture screw, spring is OK. perhaps gap in thread. I thought to use some packing like a thin aluminium foil but then it will tear during adjustments.

3- carb sucking air on the side fitting on head. I have already mated the surfaces very nicely and installed new gasket two times. parts shop recommending to use cork type gasket but will it go bad by continuous fuel flow through intake? please tell if it can solve problem

4- long nose spark plug are available by NGK but not easily. but I have no idea what temp rating and other parameters should be there in long nose so as to match my engine requirements.

5- I heard Havoline deposit shield is the one with cleaning effects. but oil is very important for engine life and we need all properties not just cleaning thing. so we need to choose wisely

try a new mixture screw, for the leaky carburetor gasket, first disassemble the carburetor and check if the mating surfaces are totally flat, a glass top table is good to test with. if it is not flat, you have to sand it until it is level.

if it is flat, use a good gasket and be careful to tighten the screws evenly. the petrol will probably react with any silicon sealant

2011 & mileage is approx 40,000KM

dismantling my carb today and a close inspection leads to this understanding:
The pin shown above leaking actually that pin is the ventilation from carburetor inside and to keep atmospheric pressure inside carb. I can see a whole near the main jet which when I blow air takes air out from the pin shown above. there is a small hole in the pin seen from outside. so this is not a pin but a pipe. and it is purposely kept leak.
Now in normal situation it must not leak. If it is leaking my first doubt goes on high float level. high fuel quantity in carb and when bike jumps, some fuel may be coming out from this pin.

so now please tell me how i can adjust/confirm my float level. in my bike it is a KEIHEN carb similar to the one shown in pic

I will try new mixture screw. surface mating is good.
What adhesive I use with packing between carb. band and head ? UHU, curil? or what. For silicon I saw many time reacting with fuel and sticky inside.

you shouldn't use any sealant at all, just the gasket. even and proper tightening is all that is required.

i am not so familiar with motorcycle carburetors, but you should also check if the float is adjusted properly, it is easy since you are already opening it up.

is there any sight glass on the carburetor to see the fuel level inside?

its curil but it becomes hard .. apply sparingly and make sure not a single crystal of it goes into the intake after the surfaces are pressed ..

All right, got the idea. use adhesive only if extremely needed. otherwise surface mating should be enough.
There is no sight glass in carb.

Can anybody tell me how to check / confirm the float level for my SP70 KEIHEN carb?
I mean I know how to do it but i need the values. how much cm/mm should be the floats when putting upside down for calibration. or is there other way to measure float level?

can you tell me about float level on my sp70?

i would recomend mechanic to do it.. as we do not have gauges for it.. so it has to be done by experience/observations.

however if you want to do it yourself then try using your own wits after undertanding how the float balls automatically close the fuel inlet..
try with small increments....

ooh come on, I had a real bad experiences with Mechanics. ( sorry u good Mechanic guys. not for you)
Recently I visited mechanic for my engine seize problem. After 7 days of low load running, it seized again. as usual mechanic told me a bunch of new stories and new expenses. Just one visit to mechanic and most screws/bolts and other small accessories are now in some other clients bike whcich was being repaired in parallel with mine.

I had to do all job from start again and also do all expense do again. all money for mechanic repair vanished in a week.

For carb float level. no special tools are required. only a ruler (scale) or vernier and a sense to carefully judge how and where to measure the float position.
I am requesting the measure in cm/mm. The height of float balls what it must be as per the co. specs. for my carb/bike.

If anybody can help in this, appreciated.

Dear there is a Promontory sign in carburetor bottom end where fuels stay in it see that carefully & get the fuel level according to that sign INSHA ALLAH your all problems will be solved

Dear thanks for the idea. My carb lower pan where Fuel stays is plain with no marking. Can you show any pic to get me the idea?

that pin is the "vent" for the carburettor bowl, if there is no vent then fuel cannot flow into the carby, if you had fuel flowing from the vent then this phenomenon is called "over hojana" by local mechanics and is called "flooding" in english.

to remedy this - check the needle valve.

thanks bro if carb is getting 'over' or flood does it mean more fuel level in my carb? how to adjust correct level?

is it flooding ?
if yes then there is a valve that controls when the fuel should be allowed in carb .. either that valve is faulty.. its easily replacable unit.

or the float balls that tells when the valve should open and close are set incorrect..

the raising fuel level raises the float balls and the float balls through a simple mechanism shuts the valve close to stop more incoming of petrol.... these float balls are same as in water tanks..

adjust the little clip that sits on top of valve .. google how to adjust float level on pz or pb or pc type carburettor.
