I purchased castrol magnatec 10w-40 yesterday for my honda civic 1996 1.5L Exi,
but castrol pakistan's territory manager told me not to use this oil for my car as its too old for such oil.
when i searched on castrol's website for the right oil for my car, it recommended two oils Castrol Edge and Castrol Magnatec.
what should i do ?

Don't Worry about such advice...

I am using 10W-40 (ZIC) in 1990 Khyber and it's good grade over 20W-50. Also used 10w-30 Havoline Formula.

get engine flushed with sludge cleaner liquid, I got this from gawalmandi named WHIZ black bottle.

I shall also try same grade of others as well, Castrol Magnatec, Shell HX-7, ENOC etc.

well if the engine in your car is not reducing oil then 10w40 is fine. i use castrol magnatec and its a good oil. but still i would say that in the summers use a thicker oil such as Castrol 20w50 in your car and in the winters like from mid september to april use magnatec. its just a precaution for an old engine. otherwise newer engines run fine on magnatec all year in all seasons.

well, the engine of my car is in excellent condition. it can still beat a newer model civic. and not a single drop of oil is reduced.
it even sounds like a brand new engine...

then just go ahead with magnatec. its an awesome oil much better than other local options such as shell, caltex etc.

WHIZ cost Rs. 170/- for 500 ml bottle , it's enough for one time use, before oil change add this 500ml to engine oil and start the Car idle for 10~15 minutes. with intervals press accelerator paddle to rev.up. Then just drain and change filter also.

20W-50 is less synthetic, 10W-40 falls in semi-synthetic. For good oil you can drive 5000 km easily, I use to change after 6000, but after 4k~5k check oil few times randomly, if it's not reducing.

Sir I prefer Shell HX7 and you do not have to use cleaner you can directly change the oil and use a good oil filter, change oil after 5,000km/1 year whichever comes first.

Regards

It's Sludge Cleaner not oil cleaner,
Due to long use of non-synthetic mineral based oils, wax/sludge is made on engine parts.

New grade introduction to engine would benefit when it's cleaner.

Shell HX-7 is also 10w-40.

Not true many members use sludge cleaners and some of them use @ every oil change.

I have used two times consecutively. It's fine.
Now my oil remains yellowish till 4000 KM

don't know, U may visit stores

I got it from Rehmania Store, gawalmandi.

It is better to avoid sludge in the first place by using good oil, OEM quality or better filters, and regular changes of both.

yes thats what i have been doing all the time. i mean changed engine oil on time i.e. 3500-4000 KM and always used havoline formula oil. i am confused if still there is sludge in the motor or not? thats why purchased whiz motor flush yesterday.
i have consulted with caltex manager pakistan and caltex technical department australia. both of them have given go ahead to switch to castrol from havoline for which first they told me not to do so...

question now is that i am switching between two oil brands and is this motor flush really necessary before this change overs....

If you want to look for sludge, just remove the valve covers and have a look. How many miles on the engine? Serviced regularly from new?
