Anyone ever tried repairing thr battery?

Not worth it, I've found it to only be worth if they're employed in a home UPS system because in cars they only last a small time and you would be much better off with a new battery. That is also if the battery isn't dead beyond ressurection

i have a battery, its showing around 10V....

upon inspection i found out that one out of 6 cell dont show any activity while on charge...

so i was thinking that why cant we change that problamatic cell instead of changing whole battery?

will it work?

how much it will cost for this experiment? for AGS 45 amp battery model

Check the electrolyte voltage in each cell, if one cell shows completely flat then the only repair that can revive the battery is to rebuild a new cell plate stack (truck stops do such work)

Not worth the repair. My car's battery's one cell was not working, I just bought a new hybrid AGS battery.

that's great that you got a new battery but i was rather more concerned with why is it not worth repair?

You tried to repair the faulty cell battery and it didnt work out?

OR

You made a cost analysis and found that repair cost is going to me more expensive than getting a new one?

my logic is, y cant we just replace a faulty cell if somehow it got dead while all others showing healthy behavior and repair cost represents just a fraction of new battery cost.

It is possible but hard to experiment. You have to open up the cell, cut connections, rebuild the plates with Lead, stack the plates, re-connention, new electrolyte.

yes, i have found on internet that lots of people are already doing it.

and repair costs are not that much.

so i was thinking abt visiting such place and asking them to replace the faulty cell and repack it, just as an experiment offcourse after check the the voltages of other cell as mentioned above by Xulfiqar. else its pointless

please make sure that they flush the electrolyte and balance charge (trickle charge) the battery after cell replacement. Good Luck

But they don't do the job by heart, so that you visit them again and again after a few months.
@Moderator is right. All of them use electrolyte made of sewarage water and dirty sulfuric acid, no concentration and standardization protocols.
And after the job they flash charge the battery, no standard charging devices

One can watch how accurately they restore the electric parts and charge without any calculation. Experiment is one thing, but be vigilant about the use of such battery. These batteries can catch fire or stop working anytime.

back in the day when I lived in Pakistan there were some places that were rebuilding batteries the proper way. They were some in Pak Colony Area near the naurus factory and a few near garden area close to the old Khairpur house. They usually didnt cater to public but rather were suppling such batteries for gensets. - They usually were rebuilding the massive D8 batteries aka cat batteries (bulldozer batteries)

They were the last remaining to actually have the oldschool black casing batteries with the pretty font on a foil sticker. Some of my clients had older classics and they preferred it have the period correct battery.
