I am about to buy Honda city 2005, The owner saying that its assembly has been changed recently. I have some questions in my mind,answers from your side will be appreciated.
1. What is meant by car assembly ?
2. Does it effect the documents of car ?
3. Does it effect cost ?
4. Is it good to buy such car ?
5. If bought, will it create tension in future ?
Please give me satisfactory answers, I will be very thankful to you.

Engine assembly is changed when engine life is over its much bettee than engine overhauling. However, in our case, it will impact the price a bit. Assembly number can easily be updated in book. Simple

1. means car's original engine has been changed with a used one.
2. ideally, the new engine number should be upgraded in car's book, but what practice is generally done in Pak is they embose the old engine number on the new assembly. In other words, rather than changing number in the books (which is a bit lengthy process and decreases the car value much more), they change the number on the engine.. to match the number on the book (which is of course cheating, but you know hamari awam loves to do it and it costs a lot less).
3. yes it does affect cost. original is original, second engine is second.
4. if the newer engine is in good condition and you are getting the deal in a relatively lower price, it is okay.
5. maybe when you will sell it in the future, it will create the same kind of doubts in the mind of buyer as it is giving doubts to you : ) so , a little bit of hint of tension is there of course !

BTW, the owner actually told you he got engine changed, otherwise you would have never known that .. so , in old Citys , a lot of cars have their engines changed, maybe the owner will not tell you and you will buy it happily : ) so i'd say this owner is a bit of an honest owner : )

Well changed engine is good i think, more than 70% of this model city have changed engine, owners prefer changing the engine instead of overhauls as it is easily available at a reasonable cost. If u manage to find a original engine, you might have to replace it near future as no one tells the original mileage of the car. Make a good deal with a changed engine car, it is good if engine number is updated on the book rather than being stamped on the engine. Get the car checked by a good mechanic & electrician and make sure the engine swap was done neatly and no jugaars specially in the wiring were done.
I think it won't be a tension if the swap is done nicely.

My concern here would be that if the car's mileage is above 150k or close to 200k then i can assume that it was almost well kept and maintained.....but if mileage is around 120 or less than 100k with this assembly change then i would walk away, cause this low mileage is just normal walk for normal engines

My question is a bit off topic. My civic is at the garage for a complete engine overhaul, will this decrease the value of my car? I was thinking to get the same engine from shershah or some place, but people quoted over 60-70K. Before the breakout of COVID-19, a stock D15Y3 engine was around 45k.

decrease the value as compared to what ?
of course if it needs overhaul, you will need to get the job done. Otherwise engine problems will be too obvious for the buyer to buy this car. a well set engine is better than a smoking, decreasing oil, bla bla engine even from a resale point of view.

I'd say overhaul is better, at least you know the engine. Swap means you find an engine in used cars which you don't know the history of and then you will have to go through the hassle of changing it's number on book or vice versa.

Yea exactly. A D15Y3 engine costing above 50-60k isn't worth it at all. That is why i opted for a complete overhaul. Because now I'll have a peace of mind that my engine is brand new, and all parts being used are OEM or Japanese parts.
And also that I wont need to face any major maintenance issues for the next 10 years or so

Rebuilding here has no life..its very easy to find a perfect engine..get from nose cuts..pay a slight premium and get a proper engine that actually lasts.rebuilding with local mechanics means game over at next 30k kms
