Know the law, talk smooth and man up to avoid harassment from police in Pakistan.
In my family we don't even present original documents that they can check by law unless absolutely unavoidable.
You can avoid making them fabricate anything on you if you get on a call with someone first (believe me anyone works if you are confident enough).
Recently on some other thread in this forum I told my encounter with a traffic police officer who tried to harass me about my parking whereas I dropped his bike (parked worse than I'd park a car) in front of him and returned his words to him.
This month, I present some more encounters.
In Sialkot, a lot of naive wardens have been recruited who themselves look barely legal.
One day, one was trying to make the traffic flow properly one car at a time because he was making them follow the wrong route (like short cutting a turn instead of taking a full curve), he made me stop and tried to make a car take shortcut in front of me, I move ahead and blocked the car fully, frustrated, he asked me (aap ko rukny ka kaha tha, samajh ma nahi ata?), I replied, are you the new recruit? (aap naye aaye hain?), being Sialkoti, he had trouble understanding clear Urdu, I asked the famous Punjabi dialogue (nawa aya aen?, avoided saying sohnya), he noded yes, I replied again in Urdu (tw sahi rasta aesy ha k aap isy turn k pas turn karwayen) the proper way is like this while gesturing with my arm.
An evening about a week ago, I parked in front of Bata outlet (Rang Pura Chowk Sialkot), while a friend got out to buy himself some shoes, slippers etc. I decided to wait in car with my younger brother so that I may move if at anytime the flow of traffic is obstructed, the traffic was fairly light and 3 traffic wardens were standing about a 100 meters away. Shirking their duties (No check on helmet, mirrors, lights, overloading, most of the people avoiding u-turn and entering the road wrong way from a market near them only to cause nuisence in the intersection (chowk) trying to merge with those coming the right way). They decided to put their "barely legal" trainee warden to test and sent him to me. I was blasting music at full, so his first knock on my window went unnoticed, second went unnoticed intentionaly, 3rd was met with me lowering music (not my windows) and asking him with my hand (what?), he asked me to lower windows, I lowered, "bhai ye no parking ha gari aagy kar len", I asked "aagy kahan kar dn?"; he "ye road no parking ha, aap chowk sa tw aagy ly aayen" I said acha and raised the window while acting like I was going to move my car.
When he went back that 100 meter, I honked at him, he came again, I asked "ye jo itni or gariyan, bikes hain, ye sahi kharri hain?" (now there were cars as well, but in my immediate vicinity, there were only bikes), he said, k "aap ny gari road py lagai ha, ye tw footpath k sath lagi hain", (all bikes were perpendicular, not parallel parked, and there was a gap between bikes that he failed to notice, barely enough that an expert driver could parallel park his car as well),
I asked, agar ma bhi bikes jitni jaga ma gari khari kar ln (that I'm not on road more than any parked bike was), he "aap kesy karyn gy?", me "meri technique aap ki tension tw ne" and I reversed into the space and instead of fitting my car by doing a forward and reverse manouver again, I pulled my hand brake and spinned front tyres to tuck in the car). then asked, ab theek ha.
He went back, his seniors observing that their trainee was failing in front of a child (I'm skinny so look younger than I am). so another came back to his support, "ye dekhen, aap ko dekh k wo b chowk ma kharri kar gya ha", mean while my friend was back then, I replied: "tw usy puchyn jo road py main chowk ma kharri kar raha, ghanty sa aap k samny itny ulty seedhy ja rahy, aap ko wo nazar nahi ata, ma bghair kici ko disturb kiye khara, mery pas 3 dafa bhej diya larky ko, bas haram khori hi ati?". He was speechless and I started my car to go as my friend was back.
Next day, I saw them at the same spot, a decent looking man was arguing with them, I clutched in, floored it, clutch out and steered away when they thought I almost ran over em. they won't forget me now I guess.
