Black engine oil?

Hey guys! Hope is everyone is doing fine. So when my car had done 5000 KMs, I got the oil changed and chose the synthetic one. But only after driving around a 1000 KMs, I noticed the engine oil had gone black! Now the car has done 8500 KMs but can someone tell me why the oil had turned black? Is it normal or something else? It got me worried at first but some people said its fine since its a new engine. I know its late now but better late than never! I will not be in peace until I get an expert opinion from you guys

Its normal. The good oil change its color (usualy becomes blakish) as they clean the unnecessary builds up & deposit from the engine. BTW which car do u own & wat were the brand/grade used previously & later?

Hmm... I have a Honda Civic (Reborn), the previous oil was from the factory as this is the first oil change I had done and it was on time. The only reason I was worried is that it's a new engine, it had only done around 5000-6000 KMs at that time. Now it's around 8500KMs. I chose synthetic oil, not sure what was there before (most probably mineral). Is it still normal? :s

Oil getting darker means it is performing its function well.
By the way after how much time the previous oil was changed ??
I suspect you kept the previous oil more than its due...After all its a Civic Reborn , retired by Honda several months ago. And you have only changed its oil just once.

Oh, thats a sign of relief! phew
It was changed after 4500 KMs.
No bro, it was changed even before it was due!
Since our daily running is really really low, we usually take the car for service according to the time rather than KMs ran. But we try our best to keep the time and KMs balanced

^^You are getting it wrong.
For drain interval beside the 5 to 6000 kilometers limit, there is a time limit as well. Follow Whichever comes early.

There is no time limit for real Synthetic oil and 3 months for mineral ? that's too low, I hope the manual is not written by one of us, surson ka teil bhi 3 months mein kharab nahi hota

I would suggest to make a habit to change oil within 3 months or 4000kms (whichever comes first). Will save you from lot of hassle. Also the oil turning black is a good thing. but since the engine is new, I would suggest to be more careful and vigilant in oil changes.

4 months or 3.5k Kms for a mineral oil..Drain interval for synthetics varies from manufacturer to manufacturer..

the first oil drain is usually black, that is because Honda engines have the dow corning moly 77 applied as assembly lube, the DC-MolyKote 77 is pitch black.

While reading the above posts, I was wondering if the car running is not that much do you still need to change the oil every 3 months?. In my case time would come earlier, as I had put in Shell Helix Ultra which gives a maximum change interval of 5,000 kms but my daily running is very low about 20kms. So I have just completed 4,970 kms after about 8 months. If I were to change my oil after 3 months I would have only done about 1,500 kms. So what do I do in my case????? :S
