Baby Car seat use it or not?

I have a 8 months old daughter. I am wondering should I get a car seat for her to put her in back seat. I am not sure how safe is it to use a car seat for a child of her age. Kindly help with your experience and knowlege.

A child seat should be used for anyone below 8 years. (Child seat and booster seat etc). But let me also add this is not related to age only. There are other parameters like weight, height. A young child should not be seated in a front facing child seat.

I have 2 sons. Have been using the seats since they day they were born. (Am outside of Pak and its the law here to use child seat - but after using them, even if I'm in Pakistan, I would have my sons sitting in the car seats).

U can find a lot of information online about which child should be used for different stage.

Bottom line ..... USE IT.

yes u can use it .. placed and fixed it properly and use it for ur daughter... i used it for my son for around 2 months... but now my son dont like this seat at all ... he like to sit anywhere but not on that seat .... may be he will use laters .. lolz

FYI : If u buy it from Mothercare , you will get a detailed instruction manual , which will be self explantry as mentioned above by MSKHAN , Therefore advised for all the members to use appropriate car seats meant for children.

yes you must use it because it prevents the child if collision occurs, here in uk its a law otherwise we get penality if police stops us, but make sure that you fix it properly and must use the seat belt with it otherwise without seat belt there is no point of using child seat

Correctly installed car seats saved the lives of both of my kids in a recent crash. You should not think twice about safety, get one for your child ASAP. good ones are available on the 3rd floor of al-fatah shopping centre in gulberg III.

You must use a car seat to prevent your child from becoming a human projectile during a crash.

You need a toddler car seat and it must face backwards till your child is one year old. After that you can switch the seat to face forward. Never install a child seat on the front seat, ever. Your daughter needs to stay in a child seat untill she is big enough to transition to a booster seat. At that point you will use the regular seat belt. You should also learn how to properly secure it. Most good quality seats come with all the hardware you need to secure them properly. Also, there is an expiration date for child car seats. Make sure to check it before buying it.

I forgot to mention, when you buy the new child car seat, get the one that offers height adjustment for belts. It will have three or four slots in the back where the belts come through. If you can find one which offers reclining, your daughter will appreciate it even more.

Thanks for your help and adivice. It really helped me make up my mind about using car seat.
Now the only problem is how to get it fixed properly, as the guys in these stores even Alfateh are dumb salsesmen who dont even know if the seat is for two point or 3 point seat belt.

buddy - you HAVE to get car seats for kids. i am sure i dont need to impress upon you the safety angle after so many other PWs have replied but google it and there is enough empirical data to suggest that you need to have them.

i would only install on the rear seats and since you're in Lahore goto AlFatah or that big baby/kid store in liberty. most good seats will only install on 3 point seat belts (not 2 point lap belts) so depending on what car you have you may have to look into adding seat belts as well. i am only saying that because quite a few popular cars in PK dont have proper 3 way belts in the back.

BTW most good brand car seats will have their manuals/user guide online so look that up if you dont get a guide from the seller, as is the case mostly from stores like alfatah who throw away the box beforehand.

oh yeah last peace of advice - most people here (unfortunately) think you're an idiot if you use that baby seat and have no problem pointing it out. dont worry about them, let them do it... its YOUR kid!
