Audi A3 8v quattro mods and changes

A thread for an Audi a3, this will cover any minor tweaks and adjustments I make over time.

First off, A.o.A all, I have been an on and off reader of pakwheels for a while. I don't think my thread will bring alot of excitement since me and my car are not local. But life has brought me here 🤷🏻‍♂️.

First things first, I used to have a 2016 1.8 a3 before I got this one, my old car was purchased by a close friend so you might see it in some of the pictures (hopefully).

I searched around before finding something I liked. It was a mid spec car with decent specs: 210w 9 speaker audio, parking sensors, 2.0t engine, awd, bi beam auto level headlights, white color and 62,000km. No accidents. Single owner.

The trip meter was at 58,000km and showed a 9.8l/100km for the trip which indicated gentle use. For reference, my old 1.8t 2wd did about 7.8-8.2l/100km at best. The oil was fresh as per owner.

Here's the negative: maintaince was behind: The brake rotors, pads were shot all around, it had not gotten a (gearbox) service yet which is ideally done at 54-58k km(so was gonna be on me). Still on original spark plugs(should be done at 60k).

It was extensively parked outside (you can see how the paint is better on the other a3 in the pictures, mine is the one on the left from the front). It needs love. I got all the necessary paper work done (registration cost alot).

I did the basic things, rotors and pads all round..... And then I got carried away and painted the callipers blue. Like an S-line version....

Now I have the itch to convert it to an S-line. but since I hate posers I will also have to get the performance to match a stock Audi S3 with the help of a unitronic or Apr tune. Maybe future plans?

So it happened, I caught the s line conversion bug so I put it in my long term plans and I've started the slow process of getting things done one by one. Purchased this oem sline steering with a new smaller airbag. It's from a facelifted car.

Here's my current list of planned changes/things which I hope I can get done inshAllah. It's probably gonna change at least a little bit. some details: for now I'm looking at the s3/golf-R exhaust which is from the 8v s3 and mark 7/7.5 golf-R with the quad tips, it's a relatively straight forward fit. It will need a new diffuser to fit properly though. The wheels/rims combo I have in mind is a set of clean 19" pretorias available on the used market from a 16-17 year golf r with some nice contisport tyres on them. Hopefully they won't sell before I have the money.

heres a picture of the exhaust setup fitted to a chinese market 1.4turbo, hopefully I can get the diffuser in black (the plastic part).

Hey there, yeah so I bought the part from ebay, there are many many versions of these steering wheels and they are mostly cross compatible. The one I have only came on the audi Q2. The facelifted audi 8v chassis cars (a3 s3 rs3) all have a similar steering wheel but the s-line version and above all have a flat bottom steering wheel.

I would have preferred the flat bottom version of the steering for myself but most of them were from cars that came with a virtual cockpit (full lcd speedo) and those aren't compatible with my car. I found a couple with flat bottoms that were compatible but they didn't have paddle shifters so I settled for this one. BTW my car does not have paddles originally but they are plug and play so I will gain an extra feature with this one.

There are many different types and subtypes, Audi does all leather, half leather half Alcantara, half perforated leather and half smooth leather (like the one I purchased), half perforated leather and Alcantara etc etc. prices vary wildly from 250USD to 1250USD for a premium complete steering wheel. I paid 350 for mine.

So today I got around to installing the new steering wheel. I went to my nearest auto store and purchased a triple square M12 bit to remove the center steering bolt and went to town on it. I have to say, for anyone attempting this, removing the airbag is a real b#@ch, using a mirror and extending the wheel out and down, helps. Here's a few photos of the install process

I also purchased this wacky key fob casing, so the key fob looks akin to that of an A4/5. I really disliked the one that came with my car, it was a cost saving common to several VW/Audi part.

So I got rid of the switchblade key and got the rather normal looking fob. 18$ part off AliExpress. Not too bad if being honest.

My thread is pretty staid and therefore very dead but I'll still post some updates on here. I Plasti dipped most of the front grill to black and I installed some Apr ignition coils to make it ready for the stage 1 Apr tune (313hp + 330lb/ft)

All it needs before the tune now (preventative maintenance) is an oil change, step colder spark plugs + trans fluid and haldex service. A black front lip is also a possibility.

The styling is polarizing, but it is a characterful car with a personality. A theatre on wheels if you will with the sound effects (very unforgiving and aggressive once the exhaust flaps are open) with loud obnoxious backfires on each upshift with very distinct styling and 14 inch brake disks/rotors (corolla in Pakistan up until recently had 15' rims). I have a launch control video I'll see if I can find it. Here's some more pics:

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the wheels and tires combo for the Audi. They are the ones I had described earlier from the Golf R. They have brand new 235/35/19's on them. Here's some photos.

I still have to get audi center caps for these, 10mm spacers all round and a 1.2 inch drop to get the look I'm going for. They still look absolutely stunning to me.

Here's an update: no new "goodies" as such on the car. I did drop a massive chunk of money to get the scheduled gearbox and quattro/haldex system serviced. The rear diff was dirty and the awd system wasn't working. Here's a picture and a link to a non launch control 0-100kmh run I performed in Mexico 🤫.

Okay here's another update. It's very subtle and it was not nearly as expensive (AliExpress ) as everything so far.

These cf mirrors (just replace oem ones) look very nice to me and complete the low-key stealthy look with the non aggressive 19" wheels and black front grill.

As discussed before. Everything looks oem or oem+ and therefore deceptively standard to the untrained eye.
