sorry thats wrong information. a turbo timer is used to let the car idle and cool down after the car has been used and driven. its more important in turbos cars then compared to NA. because you should not shut down a hot engine and turbo without letting it cool. so the turbo timer lets the engine idle automatically according to the time set or the auto timer feature and lets the engine/turbo cool down before shutting off.

What will happen if a hot turbo is turned off, does it same go for the non turbo petrol engines should they be let cool on idle before shutting down.

^only for turbo engines..a hot turbo engine turned off "might" cook the oil, which will result in small hard crisp pieces going through your engine the next time you start killing your bearings. Of course this varies across different engine setups.

In my office there is a mighty 6 cylinder diesel genset I have seen it has two turbo spools each feeding 3 cylinders it turns on and off by an automatic system but I have never noticed that the auto shutdown has allowed delay for cooling process.

^i dont think that engine might be used in conditions same as aggressive driving/ drag racing on roads. I havent seen any engine failures which resulted directly into lack of oil cooling process, but its safe to say that having such a device gives peace at mind.
