i am also thinking of upgrading to newsmy carpad 3 (android 4.4.4) head unit. the thing i have learned from my research into it are these:
1. there are numerous brands with same hardware but different build qualities and prices.
2. Sound quality might not be upto the level of pioneer head units( dont have a direct comparison yet)
3. Feature wise android head units blow away any branded heand unit available right now.
4. U can use mobile hotspot and use google maps waze etc or use sygic etc easily, gps, 3g evo, youtube, sound cloud, and any other app on android units.
so over all if u want sql level sound quality then android might not be yr choice.... but if u r like me who wants feature n only listen to medium to low sound level music in car then carjoying or newsmy carpad are your best choices. I would stay away from the normal chineese units in the market i have seen one in a shop and it had a very limited android os.
