Aftermarket Bi-Xenon Projectors Revealed

I'm pretty sure I'll be tagged as the 'bad guy' by many after they've read this but seriously it's time someone spread awareness how these Projectors actually perform.

Please Note: I do not intend to target anyone's business directly or indirectly through this brief article, this is plainly for awareness.

So, I've been noticing how the Bi-Xenon Projector Kits are gaining popularity here. Came across a number of sellers on Facebook as well as Pakwheels, seen them lying in popular accessory shops as well, won't name any over here.

These come packaged in a fancy box that displays how these so called HID Projectors have rings that change seven different colors (<--- Ricer Material) and states how these are much better replacements to stock lighting.

The box is similar to this:

Now what the consumers see is a brilliant package, as the seller convinces the customer to buy these projectors, an Accord CL7/CL9 passes by and the customer notices how the Accord uses projectors as well and has such crisp lighting. They will expect the same from these projectors.

Question is, are these projector kits good enough?

Well, these are basically Asian made G3 Projectors which use the H4 bulb. They have an ECE cutoff rather than a DOT spec cutoff which is actually a plus point since most of the cars in our country have the ECE cutoff.

If I had a choice, I'd never buy these projectors. Not because I'm biased but simply because of two reasons:

• Price tag of around 15,000 a pair, if I invest a couple thousand more, I can buy quality projectors like the Morimoto Mini, Acura TSX, Bosch AL and do a retrofit myself.

• Most of the G3 Projectors available here are actually for Left Hand Drive cars, meaning they have a LHD specific beam pattern so they're pretty much useless for our roads, you're better off with your stock lights.

The G3 Projectors have a lousy cutoff, they're not the best projectors out there.

The beam isn't wide enough as well so eventually you won't get the 'projector effect' you're actually expecting. The beam is dense towards the middle but it gets too soft towards the edges and disperses, this isn't very helpful on the road and I've been told the G3 produces slight glare as well, which is obvious over here.
Quality Projectors NEVER fade or disperse light at the edges.

Now compare the above displayed beam to the RX330's replica projector's DOT spec beam pattern below, notice how the beam spreads wider compared to the G3:

The IS250's replica projector DOT spec beam:

People would say that the G3 Projector kits don't require 'ruining' your headlight like in a retrofit and it's just 'bolt-in no cut'. Well yes it is but you'll have to detach your headlight lens in order to do so and glue the Projector, so it's pretty much the same.

I say stay away from these Projectors, not because they're Asian made, but because they're not worth the buck. You'll be spending around 10k on Projectors that don't even have the correct RHD beam pattern, would you still buy them?

For people who are willing to get the most out of their G3 Projectors, I'll suggest take apart the projectors, make a custom Cutoff Shield and install it. You'll have much sharper results compared to the original G3 setup.

Sure thing the companies offer both variants, but it's the local retailers who are importing these regardless of the fact. I did my research and found out 90% offered over here were LHD.

Retrofit isn't HUGELY overpriced, you get what you pay for. A perfect retrofit will cost roughly between 15-17k depending upon the projectors, ballasts, bulbs and shrouds you use, and the G3 Projector kit costs the same so yeah.

The websites I mentioned offer worldwide shipping, other than that, you can always import via eBay.

i dont have an experience with projectors,but i recently got 100w after market bulbs & installed em in the high beam n i can feel theres a difference,though i believe i buy products from brands like philips night breakers their results are way lot better

Branded Halogen Bulbs in Reflector housings will always perform well, Night Breakers are really good bulbs. We're better off with Night Breakers, X-treme Vision, Power Rallye and the sorts, rather than these 3rd grade projectors

Thanks Ali, yeah and in 17,000 a person can have a very decent Retrofit using Bosch AL Projectors, so why go for these when you can get hold of D2S Projectors in about the same price.

Please post pictures. The main problem is not the cutoff itself but the WHOLE beam. Use real projectors for once and you'll know the difference. Compare the beam to the TSX, S2000 or Lexus SC430 Projectors and it's pretty much obvious how the G3 is a ripoff.

Saad, you can check eBay then, there's some sellers present there who offer free shipping. I saw a pair of Morimoto Mini H1 there which were for around 11k with bulbs and free shipping. Bosch AL will also be cheap.
