Advantages and Disadvantages of Soft and Hard Tyres

Salam , i want to ask about advantages and disadvantages of Soft and hard type tyres, as we know price for hard tyres like GENERAL TYRES is cheaper than soft type like Brigestone, Hangkook, yokohama , dunlop. wat is advantages of soft tyre , is there any advantage of hard tyre upon soft tyre. thanks in advance.

Its not soft.
Dunlop and hankook are soft but Bridgestone is not soft.

Well here is the answer
Soft tyres result in better grip, more effective on bumpy roads and results in soft drive but they donot last long and wear out more quickly then hard tyres

Hard tyres last longer than soft tyres but they are not that much comfortable and results in more bumps and may lead to hardness in the steering wheel if your vehicle is not equipped with a power steering

yes danial is right, and to add a little bit, hard tyres r preferable when u have to do cornering at high speeds, bcuz they maintain their shape and do not allow body roll.

If you are looking for soft and fuel economical tyre for for Dunlop ECO.

and Yes Bridgestone is not a soft tyre when compared with Yokohama, dunlop, Sumitomo and hankook.

But when compared to General its soft.

any soft tyre with less surface area will be fuel economical, and dunlop ECO has a less surface area.

The problem is that it is very hard to find these brands in 12" and 13"
I had to get the tyres changed and I checked almost each and every shop in Rwp as I wanted to get Yokohama.
but I was not able to get it in 12"
the only Yokohama that was available in 12" was in size 145/80/R12
so finally I had to go for Dunlop ECO and I am quite satisfied with the drive uptill now

well as far as i know thats not the case,

1.you are saying that hard tyres maintain their shape , ...... the correct word is tyre deformation and yes you are right it occurs in high speed turning , but it is not related to the type of tyre being hard or soft , what matters is the wall of the tyre or the profile of the tyre,......... lower the profile of the tyre less tyre deformation on turns and better the tyre hugging the road.

2.you are saying that hard tyres also reduces the body roll of the car ....... hmmm ! no my friend , body roll of the car is directly related to the suspension of the car.

now back to the topic , in general soft tyre has more grip than the hard tyres but does not last as long as the hard tyres , also it greatly depends what profile of the tyres you are using if putting ride comfort into context.

I work here with BMW, we put maximum air pressure in the tires to get easy handling .It means the more the air pressure and the more the tire hard is, the more easily you can turn the handle. And the air pressure is less it becomes heavy on hands to handle it.

Keeping the tire pressure high means that your tires will be hard , and yes the handling will feel much responsive , these principals are right but cannot be applied on the roads of Pakistan , I am not denning that a person cannot drive like this in Pakistan , only if he is willing to put a huge dent in his wallet for the overhaul of his suspension

Dosent mean Soft or Hard ..
but i think Radial Tyres are best ..
Local or Wrong tyres usually Hard and dosent Bear lots Air Pressure like usually in pakistani Guages are Wrong .. for detecting the reall PSI ..
and i Recomend GO for Top Level Brands like Toyo .. as Japanese..
Yokohama Bridgstone..
People spend lots money for new Civic's and Corollas . but dosent know how Rubbish and Dangerous are the STOCK TYRES..

i dont think so...
hard tyres give bad traction...
hard tyres are cheaper and more durable....
softer ones are for better grip/traction and last less longer and are more expensive...

for asad_scorpio i think for every day driving medium-hard type of tyres will be ok...
but if he likes to race alot, he shud put slicks but might have to change after maybe every month...
so it all depends on budget...

Never go for any specific brand or hard or soft pattern.

Always judge the individual tire product by its tread, optimized pattern, manufacturing and aspect ratio.

Some small tire manufacturers like Sumitomo, Toyo and Kumho produces some world class tires.
