hi,
Just going through the shaft seal replacement of my a/c compressor Sanden SD-507 (piston based) as this seems to be the only culprit showing leakage signs(slight oil seepage), though it does not leak anything on a pressure test.

Last time i recharged ac gas 10 days ago but it was wasted (apparently) due to this leakage and my ac mechanic thinks that its a shaft seal problem and its a specialized job done by compressor repair shops at Tariq Road.

Please advice if anyone has gone through the replacement of compressor shaft seal, and where it can be done reliably. Also please mention the approx. cost of the process.

Thanks.

@xt
this happens too with my mehran long time ago, i filled gas 8 times, all time pressure remain connstant on pressure test, then mech. suggest me same that shAFt seal is leaked so pressure not droping on test but when compressor runs, due to seal leak, gas goes out, gas only go out when compressor is ON & running

i took car to Bashir autos in tariq road, they opened all parts & checked, fortunately they told it was not shaft seal but a minor crack inside compressor, they opened it & do something "tappi" in 600 from outside, then service & fill gas,

after that it was ok for long time , so they were right

so bashir autos a/c are champions in a/C works, even suzuki 3s dealers suggest them for installing a/c in new non f/f a/c cars so go to them directly without wasting time & money

u will thank me after job, i am sure

its very do able and infact normal service procedure for compressors, the only trick is to use the special seal installation tool.

Good and honest A/C shops have it.

Thanks @brownrose78 and Xulfiqar bhai!

The compressor seal was replaced 2 weeks back but, the gas lasted for only 5 days. There are no signs of oil around compressor clutch though.

I'll go to Bashir autos tomorrow. Hopefully they'll be able to find the problem

@brownrose78, can you please guide me the location.

Thanks for the valuable feedback guys!

Today the clutch revealed some seepage. So this seepage is again the seal issue. Visited a couple of ac shops today including bashir autos. They insist on replacing the compressor as seal replacement is not reliable. Bashir also advised me to replace the condenser and ac fan(with a high power vigo fan?).

The chinese new compressor costs around 6.5K and used japaneses one cost about 5.5K. Both are Sanden 507.

The seal replacement costs about 600-800. The current compressor in japanese which i installed in 2006.

Did'nt performed any work today as I was not very convinced. The seal replacement, i thought, was a very common and reliable task as any other oil seal in the engine. But our ac mechanics seem reluctant to do that.

Will get the work performed on the car in the coming week after evaluating all alternatives.

Thanks.

Alteration in compressor is never reliable and ull end up replacing everything one by one, eventually replacing the whole compressor and till then the spending would have been double the price of the compressor. I've experienced it personally and finally replaced the compressor. It has been 1.5 years i am in peace. Never recharged, never serviced after that.

My threads about this issue:

thanks guys!

I am thinking too of changing the compressor.........cause gas recharges have already costed me about the price of the compressor.

13 days later

Here is a short account of the sad story

changed the compressor with a used (kabli) sanden 507. The ac worked brilliantly. After a week i noticed gas seepage signs on the compressor and the nearby area. Went to the ac guy since the compressor was in a weeks' warranty. The ac guy was also surprised since this was the third time the seal went nuts and concluded that condenser is causing head pressure and blowing seals. This must have been identified earlier but anyhow we exchanged the compressor and changed the codenser with a new chinese one (so called best quality Chinese). And recharged the system.

The system only cooled the for two minutes and then choked. The dryrer/receiver was ice cold. The drier bottle was replaced. Again same problem.

The ac guy was puzzled and i was red hot. Finally it was concluded that R134 gas might be sub-standard causing the problem. Next day gas was filled from other supplier's gas and same problem persisted. The expansion valve was changed and so was the compressor as the compressor had little noises. And then the system was recharged again hoping that it'll be the last time.

But no, i am still being tested for my patience. The system still chokes after blowing cold air for a minute. Almost everything is replaced now but still ac doesn't seem to work. I have been going to the same ac guy for the last six years for all sort of cars but never encountered such a pain in the a** problem.

Today, is the last day i'll try getting it fixed. Otherwise i'll be happy in sweating and keeping my pocket warm.

Any other area which we might have overlooked in checking the system?

thanks.

i had my compressor seal and wall replaced and repaired for 3k. had the new condenser because the old one had alot of welds init. it cost me 2600 the singaporian one. then the dry bottle was replaced by japnese denso one. the compressor is the orignal denso i guess. i own 86 swift. in total with service and gas and items costed me 8k. is that fine ? but the ac workes perfect mashaAllah

back then when i replaced the seal, it cost me
600 for the seal
200 for labor charges for seal replacement
500 for dryer
1500 for gas

prices have exponentially increased now, so i guess you paid right, expect maybe 3K for compressor repair since used compressor cost around 4-5K. From where did you got the work done?

make sure you guys are getting a NEW shaft seal installed with its correct install tool - otherwise the seal gets damaged also make sure the compressor bolts are torqued with a torque ratchet otherwise the compressor may warp.

i got it repaired from tariq road near the tiptop drycleaner. yeah the seal + wall chamber thing costed me 3k. gas i thnk 2k. dryer 1k orignal denso. and original sa singaporian condenser for 2600. i saw the local chinese one. he said that the gas will be leaked from that in days due to poor welds at the joint. the compressor is i think the orignal japnese one which came with the car. it is 86 suzuki swift. sa310 i think. i got it turbo charged. anyways i needed some advice regarding the money i spend on the ac. i wnt to the shop at 4pm and returned back to my home at 2 am .. :frowning: complete overhaul

for how much can i get that compressor and today i looked at my compressor. it is original denso that came with my car.

These Local Sanden compressors are not famous in market. The imported Japanese one's worked well. IF Sanden Pak wants to help people of Pak they should introduce some new scroll type compressor models.

Does your company sell the shaft seal and other bits?

Let me know which car you have bro?
