98' Civic With D16Y4

I hope this thread finds you well, Alhamdolillah I have recently changed my ride to Honda Civic 98' VTI auto with D16Y4 Engine recently installed on it.
I am looking for some basic mods like changing Air filter, Exhaust system and Spark plugs currently these things are default. Looking for guidance from any Civic modifiers.
I would like to mention this that last weekend i was travelling on Liyari express way (Karachi) and car was not going above 140km/h although i was holding full throttle. D16Y4 is rated @ Power: 120 hp (88.0 kW) at 6,400 rpm (source wikipedia). i was expecting around 180km/h but it was not achieved.
I went though google and found that these mods for example Cold air intake, exhaust system and spark plugs can increase some engine HP, so looking forward to your advises.

Good suggestions are welcome.

Going for Basic mods is a good idea but first you need to diagnose what is the problem going on which causing engine to not going to its full potential.Which is cause by bad Engine timing,bad fuel pump,injectors,etc as 140kmh is nothing for d16 engine i can touch 180km in my Civic.So first you need to diagnose the problem then go for upgrade in my point of view.
and if you like kindly share pics of your ride.

Jazak'Allah guys for your response @racerali & @hash4u . @racerali Engine timing is same as it was when purchased. @hash4u if compression is weak then car pickup might get low but pickup is fine. I have AT transmission and at 140km/h rpm was around 4-5 it was not going further. I will figured it out this weekend. Insha'Allah

It is, but if the engine is not going above 140 km/h then there is some problem as the engine is not running as it should and it needs to be diagnosed.
The above statement in no way means that he should be over speeding, it merely states the fact that there is some fault with the engine and it's better to have it fixed.

@farrukh9999 bro indeed it is and i had Suzuki khyber 96' before and it was giving 155km/h on highway and it was 1.0cc and in genuine condition. My point is after switching your ride to 1.6cc and yet i get 140km/h on free highway then this switching is nothing but a piece of crap @Deadly_Flame you are right i'm not into any kind of racing things i am confused due to engine performance.

Kyber can do that , I also done that on khyber . Bro if you really want that . Put engine oil 5w-20 . Honda gear oil . And good quality plugs . You will do 170 . Tyre should not more then 195 width

Thanks @farrukh9999 bro i just changed spark plugs to NGK Laser Iridium and car got power like i just installed a turbo, now i'm getting instant response on full throttle and got engine power restored. I haven't tested top speed yet but feeling the restored engine power.

I think (not sure) this car has D16y8 engine, anyways....

Also get the valve clearance (tappets) checked.
Check the condition of the distributor and spark plug wires (cracks, cleanliness, resistance, condition of contacts etc) too. Then get the ignition timing adjusted. No need to get throttle body cleaned.

Get the auto transmission fluid changed with genuine Honda fluid (dont use regular Dex3)

All of these things are regular maintenance and will keep your car running in good condition, and prolong its life.

Since you just bought this car, if you dont know previous history it would be good to get the timing belt changed (and water pump too, since it is in the same place, used pump is cheap. Belt might be expensive depending on where you buy it from and the quality).

Since this is a old car, if coolant was not used there is a good chance that the pump would be almost gone by now. I dont have a photo but when I changed my pump half its blades had corroded away.

If your car overheats you will have to do expensive repairs on your engine.
If timing belt breaks you will loose your engine.

@ToxicDevil i have mentioned that car recently swapped to D16Y4 engine.

Last weekend i have visited a specialist Honda mechanic and told him story about my car's issue, after listening he said that your car's speed is controlled by ECU that's why i was unable to cross 5K rpm and 140Km/h speed. Anyone here removed speed limiter from their rides are welcome to jumping and help

stick to the manufacturer recommended sparks plug only these iridium plugs can damage your engine in the long run. 140 is a handsome speed, top speed doesn't matter until and unless your engine achieves that speed in the specified time.

Finally i got some major improvement Alhamdolillah actually i have dig it out all by my self my civic was giving 5-6km/liter average and there was RPM and speed limit issue.

Lets get to the point, car having low mileage because it was missing something i visited some so called expert mechanics in Karachi but they all said almost same thing that these type of cars are having low mileage issue and some made me fool by saying change this and that bla bla but my heart said there must be something missing so i went to google and found that people having this engine achieved 16km/liter i was wondering how on earth do they get this much mileage on this engine (D16Y4), so i googled more for engine layout diagram and i got what i was looking for it was an O2 sensor so one of my friend who's running a suspension and power steering shop in Karachi i asked him to arrange it for me and i got it fixed and now Masha'Allah car is giving 11-12km/liter without A.C in city 10-9km/liter with A.C.

Now issue of RPM and speed limit i again went to Karachi-Hyderabad motorway and hit 160km/h on speedometer so there was no speed limit all it want is free way to catch up speed.

I have recently installed Bi-Xenon DRL lens with HID and an Air intake and also changed tyres to Continental ContiEco R15/195w and using engine oil 10w-40 liqui moly. Will post some pics of car soon Insha'Allah.

Point of sharing this is to spread knowledge to all.

You are using wrong engine oil and wrong tire size. This car calls for 5W30 or 10W30 engine oil and 185/65/14 is the tire size for it.

Correction it was 10w-40 which is in recommended oil list and i know civic 98 comes with 14R but i put 15R and extra width for more grip.

I also have a 2000 civic with D15Z7 engine and 195 65 R15 tire, tire size is not a problem been on this size ever since I bought the car in 2k11. I am also using 10w 40 as it is an old engine.

I ordered it from aliexpress that cost me 5887 including shipping charges and fitting cost 2200 and 200W HID cost 5800 for this

are you in karachi? i also have bixenons bought locally. but light output not so good. i am using the 35watt hid that came with it.

can you share the aliexpress link?

the reflector of the bixenon was not so good. not sharp reflection.

the bixenons were 6500 and i bough taiwanese headlights for 6000, fitting i did my self.

Yes i'm from KHI, 35W hid is useless even a 55w HID is not visible for better result use 200W hid.
