I also have a 7a powered indus corolla.
Following are the possible reasons:
Only use a double tip spark plug if you have the engine with two ignition coils and NO distributor. This is a wasted spark ignition system and the engine requires double tip spark plugs to work properly!
The engine has a combustion pressure sensor mounted in the block. You can see its wires coming out of the timing belt cover. This sensor is used to switch the engine from 12 to 16 valve mode by opening a set of butterflies mounted in the intake manifold. These butterflies are triggered by vacuum when a signal is received from the ecu based on the input from the combustion pressure sensor. In case of improper operation, the engine defaults to 16 valve mode all the time and hence cannot give you good fuel economy.
This particular 7afe is also sensitive the the correct map sensor and oxygen sensor so check the part numbers on the net and confirm.
A properly wired up engine should be giving you no diagnostic trouble codes so check those too.
