6 Day Trip (Gilgit to Sost)/(Gilgit to Khaplu)/(Skardu to ISB)

I finally made the effort for the long awaited journey from USA to Lahore and than Lahore to the Northern Areas. The total trip was about 6 days long. And it was the third week of November which means the sunset was at around 4.54pm. Which didn't leave enough time to play around.

Day 1: ISB to Gilgit to Hunza
Day 2: Hunza to Sost and back to Gilgit
Day 3: Naltar Valley and back to Gilgit
Day 4: Gilgit to Skardu and final destination to be Khaplu
Day 5: Back from Khaplu to Skardu and than to the 3 main points in Skardu (Sadpara Lake, Shigar Valley, Shangrila Lake) and bus back to ISB
Day 6: Travelling on KKH all the way from Jaglot to ISB.

Got up at 5 am to catch the flight at 7 am to Skardu, and to my surprise the flight was cancelled because of "technical issues". Of course the technical issues being that the pilot lost the keys to the cockpit ahaha! Ohh wait nvm ... its PIA so there must have been a technical issue LOL. Being so cool about the cancellation I went to the ticketing center and tried to book the ticket for tomorrow. Of course "hot blooded pathans" were on the agent and trying to get reimbursement from PIA. But none of them succeeded and many got flights booked for tomorrow. But one smart fellow came across and asked for a flight to Gilgit at 10.40 am and that was the break I was looking for so I ended up doing the same thing. Ofcourse the flight was delayed 3 hours and we ended up at Gilgit at 2 pm. Got out of the airplane and everything about cursing PIA was out the window when the mountains unfolded there beauty.

Started walking on airport road till we found a minivan that was taking people to the main station of Gilgit. "Judiyal"

Honest to God! Words cannot describe this beauty. It was really early in the morning and the camera was unable to pick the quality of beauty that I was indulged in!

So at the end of day 2 I was back at Gilgit all the way from Sost. I caught the 2.30 pm hi-ace that leaves there from Sost to get to Gilgit by 6 or 7 pm. I stayed the night in the main bazaar near the intersection of the Nomal valley road. I was told that the bus leaves in the Morning for Nomal and Naltar. I was unable to find a transportation all morning and by 9am I decided to hire a taxi from Gilgit to end of Nomal where the route to Natlar valley starts at. The cost of the cab was 1500 for one way. Got dropped at the intersection of Natlar and Nomal Valley. Waited there for 45 mins and no one was going up. I was told everyone comes down the valley to shop at Gilgit and than the buses run later in the afternoon to transport those people back to the valley. So I started walking up the road until I saw a motorcycle coming up the track and I turned around and he stopped and asking me where I was going? I told him all the way to the Palace. So he gave me a ride for 2 km out of 22km route. (this is where the Chinese are making a power house) So I thanked him and offered him couple of hundred rupees and he said "No way" and i felt kinda bad. So i continued my journey by foot until there was a jeep coming from Nomal and going to Naltar to help out a friend with the "Hay transportation". So I asked if I could hop on the back and they said it would be a great pleasure to assist me. So I enjoyed the jeep ride up to the valley. These are the pics of the top of Natlar Valley.

Heading down wasnt too painful until the person decided to stop to drop of the Hay stack and said If I can wait here for another hour he would take me down to Nomal. As he had to go back up for another load. So I decided to just walk the rest of the 10km down to Nomal valley. I started walking and a young teen came like an angel and gave me a ride on the bike all the way down to nomal valley before his tire got punctured on the intersection of KKH and Natlar valley. So I walked the rest of the loop up to the KKH and hoped on Hiace back to Gilgit. I truly admire the sweetness of the people of these areas. They truly make the tourist welcome.
