4.7l V8 Toyota (2UZ-FE) error codes

can some one please help me find the manual for this engine. i spent a lot of time on google but i couldn't find much.

my vehicle doesnt have a diagnostic port so we checked the codes manually. and the error codes it gave us were: 51, 63 and 77.

63 is auto gear related i think

it had the DLC 3 connector but seem's it is a swapped one ??

i have no idea what this means.... whats a DLC? :S

akif bhai, can you please elaborate or tell me where i can find these. or some key words i should search. because most of the codes that come up online are 4-5 digits :S

the codes i find online are 5 digit like this. but the ones we are getting from our check engine light are 2 digit... unless i'm reading them wrong?

use the toyota OBD1 codes of the corolla etc they are the same on all toyotas

code 63 in toyota is trans shift solenoid no.2 wiring severed or shorted. - check the wiring and the solenoid resistance - its a 1 amp load solenoid with 1 wire, it should read 13 ohms.

you should be facing real bad shifting right now.

code 51 is switch signal fault, which can range from missing STA signal whilst cranking, badly adjusted TPS, bad wiring, bad A/C switch and sometimes even the trans solenoids bad etc.

77 is an odd one - mostly 7x codes in toyota mean bad ECU or missing communication to TCU

just racked my head, I use a pattern thought and sometimes need a picture ref to remember it too. This code is special, it freaking bugged me for about 3 hours - and toyota in all their wisdom have not included it in the regular pages of ECU diagnostics - its buried in the transmission section.

the car I was working when this bugged me was an old cressida.

BTW a dumb question. What are the possibilities of installing a paddle shifter in tiptronic transmission. I think it's doable what do you say?

ok so from what i understand. OBD1 codes are 2 digit and OBD2 are 4 digit? the earliest version of the 2uz engine came out in 1998. so i guess it can't be an OBD1. can you get the codes from an OBD2 engine without a scanner?:S

You need to either fool the ECU with some 1 amp per solenoid loads or get a manual ECU (rocking horse poo) - The ECU reduces power when it detects failure in the A/T because this engine can burn out the trans in very short distance if its slipping etc.

the 2 digit codes of toyota are universal across all toyota.

The stupid codes like the 6x are buried in the A/T diagnostics in the service manual. The flash codes can be read from the DLC with a break out box or even a handy tester.
