The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class two-seat roadster is now in its sixth generation, with 60 years of sports-car heritage re-imagined in a modern, technology-laden luxury automobile.The SL-Class is comprised of three models: the SL550, the SL63 AMG and the SL65 AMG. The SL550 is powered by a 429-hp 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual mode and paddle sifters The SL63 AMG boasts a hand-built 530-hp 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, as well as a seven-speed MCT (multi-clutch technology) transmission. The SL65's larger 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 generates an immense 621 horsepower, and is paired with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS automatic transmission. The SL63 should pop off 0-to-60-mph runs a bit below 4.0 seconds. Opt for the AMG Performance package (an extra $9000 on top of the car?s $146,695 base price), and AMG turns up the turbo boost, resulting in a total of 557 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.
