Which one of these you guys suggest is a better buy in a budget around 4.5 million as FIRST SUV.

My requirements:
1. Seven seats
2. Dont really care about options but vehicle should be trouble free.
3. Fuel mileage isnt a problem As I intend to use it occasionally.
4. No BRVplease want an SUV.
5. No Sportage as want a 7 seater

I currently have a civic X with which ill be replacing it with money on tops.
Havnt kept an SUV before but have an above average knowledge about cars and know about various problems and their solutions.

What do you guys think I should go for?
Your suggestions are needed.

My mind says Fortuner as its new but family says Prado because its a Prado.

don't go for a tzg prado as you will face height control problems I owned it before and had to sell it as far as the fortuner is concerned go for it its a new shape plus better looking than an old prado

I like the fortuner, have driven one as well, it is OK to drive and comfortable. Being a petrol it wouldnt require the diesel kind of maintainance.
2015+ model are a little out of my budget.

But Prado also sometimes looks appealing. I would definitely go for a petrol variant.
Did a brief search on pakwheels and found most of them are 55 plus dont know why.
50 plus for an old Prado is what taking me off it.

A well maintained Prado TZ or TZ G petrol variant would no doubt be more comfortable than the 13-15 Fortuner but with age comes alot of maintenance issues which if not dealt with in a timely and proper manner would make the vehicle unreliable and unsuitable for long drives.

Best to get a low mileage 013-15 Fortuner. There are still plenty in the market that have been kept with love. I have some experience with old shape and currently driving the new 2018 shape diesel so feel free to ask any questions you have.

I would suggest a Prado as after driving a 2.7l Fortuner, it felt underpowered and not as comfortable as the 120 Series Prado. 2005+ models are 53+ in price while 2003-2004 would fall in that price range, just try to find a TZ 3.4 without height control as it's actuators and motors tend to malfunction. But try to avoid a 2.7 Prado from 2002-2003 as it came with 3RZ FE engine without VVTi which is extremely underpowered. New 2TR FE engine came in 2004 which is better but still failed to satify. You could even find a 100 Series Cruiser from 1998-2002 Cruiser in 4.5 mil but ofcourse it would require alot more maintenance as its 4.2l diesel, while the 4.7l cygnus would be a total gas guzzler as expected from a V8. But at the end, its up to you whichever u may choose.

If we ignore the underpowered factor of 2.7 fortuner.
How would you compare comfort with Prado? Out of 10.
I have driven the Fortuner 2.7 it felt ok to me. Obviously not fast but was decent. Also ill not be doing any offroading in it.

I absolutely love the Cygnus but considering its too old I fear it might become a money pit or a workshop queen even if im able to afford its fuel costs. Also being a jobbie I dont have enough time to spend at workshops or junkyards sourcing parts.

Prado 120 is old but mint pieces dont really look outdated. But sadly the type of car I want is apparantly out of my budget. I cant go past 50 at max.

1st Gen. Fortuner's comfort was just fine, i would give it a 6 out 10. Although looks are subjective but, the 120 series prado looks much more appealing than the fortuner. And yes, the 100 series should be avoided if you're looking for a trouble free car and no offroading as well. But you should have a look at Fortuner, will be relatively newer and almost trouble free. I guess i'm a bit too throttle happy, thus engine's pick is a huge factor for me.
Best of luck!

in this range you may also find a lush condition Thailand vigo but you need 7 seater so I think you would not go for it but you may put some people in back tho
:joy:

I would handsdown go for a 120 series prado in the right spec and trim level. Well, this is kindof off topic and not an SUV but if you want a brand new 7 seater, some fancy new features and a powerful 3.3l V6 270 HP, you can look at an LX Varient KIA Grand Carnival. And ofcourse, it's not market ki gaari so resale and spare parts would be a problem.

The 2TR is generally very trouble free and does not require special care. Just like you would for any used car, first preference should be given to vehicle with low mileage and maintenance history. I would look for a 15 or 16 model car since 15 on-wards Indus introduced climate control in these vehicles. You can also find TRD models in 15 and above but it's only cosmetic and nothing else so wouldn't matter much.

Since this model, unlike the newer shape, is a full time 4WD SUV, it's quite heavy on fuel. I wouldn't expect anything more than 6 to 8 kmpl mileage.

Apart from that, being a 4WD maintenance is a bit on the heavier side.

5.6L engine oil with every filter change
Propeller shaft lubrication with a Lithium-based NLGI 2 grease every 5000km or 6months. (practically on every oil change)
ATF change 40K km or 2 years
Transfer case oil 40k km or 2 years
Front diff and rear diff oils at 40K km or 2 years.

Nevertheless, this is just to give an idea on the differences in maintenance from a car and you can read specifics about maintenance schedule in the owner's manual.

This vehicle truly shines when you take it off-road. I've driven it on the beach sand and rocky terrain and it never disappointed. Coming from a 10th gen civic you would surely miss the agility and overall better driving dynamics on highway. But then again, both vehicles have their merits. The Fortuner can carry more people and take them to places a civic can only dream of.

You summed up quite comprehensively.
Fortuner it is then I guess.
I have one in sight in silver. Its a 2013 though but looks clean.
