Toyota offers 70 series as landcruiser till 1991. After that landcruiser 80 series started. Due to high demand of 70 series they continued production of 70 series land cruiser but they called it land cruiser prado. And prado brand became successful so they provided a new shape prado and again renamed 70 series landcruiser as land cruiser II.
Automatic gear offered in prados. They all are same now. No worries.
Best option is 3L engine and manual gear.
1kz is too fuel thirsty and 2L-t is very underpowered. Dont go for alterations.

Yes in my openion 7-8km/l is not good. I know a person who runs 5 door as a rent car in murre. He does 11-12km/l with 5L engine.

You are right Toyota 5L engine is the upgraded form of 3L engine and its non turbo and it returns average of 11-12 km/l.

But I have read a statement here on pakwheels that "a non-turbo diesel engine is half the engine".

I havent understood this statement until I switched from my pristine 1989 HJ60 with 2H 6 cylinder non turbo engine to my current daily runner i.e. 1999 Toyota Surf with 1KZ-TE.

Turbo diesel always brings smile whenever you put little heavy foot on the accelerator.

For a 1992 vehicle it doesn’t matter if its a landcruser prado or prado. You should look for the condition of the suv. The engine, gear, suspension and body.

I had a 1996 prado, 1kz turbo with manual transmission, it returned me almost 10+ kms per litter.

I’m not a fan of the 5l and 3l engines, they feel so underpowered and have a lot of noise compared to a 1kz.

If you want an old diesel SUV, 1kz is your best option.
