Aoa
I own 1988 Toyota Corolla with 2-c diesel engine
At first i did not faced this issue ever. One day i was driving normally at around 100 km/h when suddenly my car downshifted from 4th to 3rd gear and making alot of noise.
I got the transmission oil changed but still the same.
Sometimes the car shifts to 4th gear at around 90 - 110 km/h but as soon as you lift your foot a little from the paddle it downshifts again. And when you rev it a little it again comes in 4th gear.
This problem has affected fuel consumption badly!!
Please tell me a solution for it.
THANKS in advance..

is it OEM diesel variant with auto transmission ? or a swapped one.

which type of transmission fluid is used when changing if down shifting is happening at low rpm even after fluid change most likely it is wrong fluid type you poured.

please share vehicle ID plate read able picture to identify trans/axle type & engine variant.

regarding gear oil.. AISIN is very good brand for gear and brake oil.. Japanese make and it is recommended in major Japanese cars such as Mitsubishi

Had 2005 Pajero and the brake oil cap has AISIN brand recommended on it .... and used AISIN gear oil on Prado petrol engine and Prado Diesel engine.. no complains no issues since last change

kixx is good too but try using AISIN OR TOYOTA GEAR OIL

check if your new gear oil is again dirty ( changed its colour) and has a burning smell maybe transmission issue

furthermore check your cam shaft aswell

best regards

great so you get kick down everytime you ease on throttle. ... < salute >

i still request to share the picture of vehicle id plate in engine bay to suggest something fruitful

i wonder what is relativity of transmission kick down with cam shaft as other member suggested to check

downshift on releasing throttle? - you mean upshift?

if you are losing O/D then you might want to check the 2 pin wiring connector on the transmission for bad wiring (if this is the oldschool hydraulic box with pressure cable and electric O/D lockout)

the wiring is basically going to the O/D solenoid. When you apply power to it the transmission will "shift out of" O/D and continue in 3rd gear (direct drive). This shift pattern is also affected by the pressure cable setting.

If you are facing extremely delayed shifting in all gears then the speed governer maybe stuck with some debris/trash in it and is held up. Its removable from the diff casing on the transaxle, its right above the left driveaxle cup behind a metal plate.

When you changed the ATF, did you flush it out or just drained and filled about 3 litres? - the transmission holds close to 8 litres.

I know for a fact that Toyota Indus absolutely refuses to graft half cuts. If they are going to use any part of a front cut (inner aprons etc) they will leave the firewall alone as the chassis no. is stamped on it.

Im not going to believe that Toyota Indus imported a scrapped vehicle for you and welded it.

seems case of NCP surgery.

yes you may need to replace the transmission or if you are lahooore you can visit OBAMA CAR CARE 0321 4106898 on Tipu Block Garden Town - only week days.
