1976 Mazda 929 Coupe - Build Thread

Salams everyone,

Since my colt is complete, now on to the next car at hand, doing a restoration for a friend's car.

The car in question is as below and it is not in this condition anymore unfortunately as it has been parked since 2 years now.

Need some suggestions on which engine to swap. Some people have suggested a 4age or 3sge beams or a 3sgte.

Still open to options, prefer to stay non-turbo.

Not sure if any mazda piston engines are available or which one would be a good swap. Ideally I would love to put a rotary back into it as it originally came but the budget I think would increase drastically. If anyone has a 12a or a 13b lying around with gear, let me know !

A big ci motor such as the UZ series would be over kill for this.

This car weighs around 2000 lbs, a 4A-GE would feel under powered esp on the lower end. You will have to wring it out to 6-7K to get any useful power. Hate to say it, but a perfect match would be a NA 1JZ/2JZ-GE. If 4 cyls is your thing, a 3S-GE or even a 6 cyl 1G-FE would do the work.

the engine bay is "tiny" in this car - its not tall either. (typical mazda design of that time)

engine bay is tiny yes...its a squeeze...narrow and less height as well as the hood itself looks very long but the the front bar and radiator takes up all the space !

i prefer to remain as pure as possible..mazda with mazda engine , mitsu with mitshu...etc.

BEAMS Is Good But Dont Know Why I Have Not Seen MANY In Action Around.....Engines Are AVailable But Parts Can Be Issue....ANd It Is Issue I Am Sure....I Spotted One Blacktop BEAMs And 2 Old Model BEAMS With Incomplete Parts.....

COuple Of 3SGTE Few Weeks Back In Shershah.....All Complete ....Clean Neat ...3S-GTE Can Be Good...You Can Check And Look For Mazda Motors Also....

yup electronics is an issue, dont know why but mostly mechanics shy away from it .... as far as rotary, kabuli engine will cost you around 2.5 lacs but i dont think the transmission will fit without cutting.Personally 4age ticks all the right boxes for me.
