A Korean multi-purpose vehicle has been voted the ugliest car on Britain's roads. The Ssangyong Rodius was named the most odious, taking nearly a third of the votes in an "ugliest of them all" survey from car website cardata.co.uk.
One of the biggest MPVs on the market, the Rodius, was described by one motoring critic as "a dog's dinner to look at". One person polled said "If Martin Clunes were a car this is how it would look".
Ssangyong RodiusIn second place was the previous-model Fiat Multipla, which took 19% of the votes, while third was the £250,000 luxury Maybach limousine made by Mercedes. The Multipla has a look that you either love or you hate, though it has picked up numerous awards and plaudits for its cunning design, which allows three people to ride in the front. Other models in the hall of shame included the Suzuki Liana - the vehicle used for BBC2’s Top Gear "Star In A Reasonably Priced Car" feature, the late and unlamented Ford Scorpio, the Renault Megane, as well as two Kias, the Rio and Sedona. Not wishing to kick a dog when it’s down, the Rover 75, flagship of the defunct MG Rover range, was also featured. Cardata spokesman Andrew Sobell said: "Naturally, the results are very subjective. For example, everyone always notes the Multipla, but its design quirks continue to be a major appeal for many observers and buyers alike. One man's ugliness is another man's beauty."
Pontiac AztecThe results were based on more than 1,500 votes cast on the Cardata website. One car that was not featured was the Pontiac Aztec, a US 4x4 never sold here – during its life the car has been universally derided as one of the ugliest cars ever.
