A very interesting question. If one was to answer this question in isolation of the market, then the answer is NO. But in todays situation, if you ask yourself the question: what else will my 9 million get me? Then this car makes a bit of sense. Initial launch was for 6.6 million. Here is the thing. All the cars prices have shot up almost equally. So the price difference between one brand and another is still almost the same.
I bought mine used for 8.45 million (12500km) in Feb 2023 and driven it 10500km. This car was launched at a price of 6.6 million. Back then around 6.6 million could get you a Civic RS, Haval H6, Sonata 2.0 and the Chery Tiggo 8. In this price comparison the best value for money was the Chery. Today at 9 million it still is.
I did a quick search of what is available in the 9.0 - 9.5 million range 2022 - 2023 cars. There are Hyundai Tuscan, Kia Sorento 2.4, Oshan Future Sense, Kia Sportage AWD and Civic Oriel. From a seating point of view (7 seater) the Sorento is the only competitor. Though the Sorento has a 4 inch longer wheel base which makes this car more roomy but Chery beats the Sorento in the features department. In the end your needs will drive your choice.
The most annoying thing about the Chery is the nonlinear response of the vehicle to pressing of the accelerator pedal. By that I mean, when moving away from a stop, when the accelerator is pressed gradually there is not much acceleration of the car and then at a particular point along the pedal travel, the car shoots forward with phenomenal acceleration pushing one back into the seat. This makes it near impossible to smoothly move away from a stop. The other thing below expectation are the brakes. The power assist to brakes is not as per what we expect in todays cars. It needs a very firm press on the pedal to get the same level of retardation as other cars. On the positives, the ride is nice, cabin is quiet making it easy to exceed the speed limit without noticing, very stable at high speeds, accelerates well, third row has its own ac controls, stylish interior, 3 LCD screens, Sony 8 speaker sound system with Apple carplay and Android Auto and a full ADAS suite with the only thing missing is the auto lane keep feature. Also seats are not cooled or heated. Both these features are in the left hand drive cars. My real wish was that this car should have been 3-4 inches longer and that additional space should have been devoted to third row leg room.
Hope you may gather something useful from the above argument.
