The Porsche Panamera is a luxury car in the mid-to full-sized segment (E-segment or F-segment for the long-wheelbase version in Europe) manufactured by the German automaker Porsche. It has a front-engine layout and both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations across its three generations.

The Panamera made its debut in April 2009 at the 13th Auto Shanghai International Automobile Show. In 2011, Porsche expanded the lineup to include hybrid and diesel variants. A facelifted model followed in April 2013, once again revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show. Later that year, Porsche introduced the Panamera S E-Hybrid, its first plug-in hybrid version, to the U.S. market in November 2013.

The name Panamera, much like the Carrera, is inspired by the legendary Carrera Panamericana race. In 2011, the United States was the largest market for the Porsche Panamera, with 6,188 cars sold. 

The most popular model variant was the Panamera 4S, with 9,394 units sold, followed by the Turbo (6,171 units), S (4,563 units), and the V6 (2,390 units), which had just been released. In 2012, U.S. sales increased to 7,614 units, while 422 units were sold in Canada. By 2017, most Panameras sold in Northern Europe were hybrid models.

The second-generation Panamera was launched in 2016, while the third-generation model was unveiled in November 2023. It's currently in its third generation and is still in production. 

What's New For 2025?

For 2025, the Porsche Panamera lineup includes two plug-in hybrids and a performance-focused GTS model. The 4 E-Hybrid features a 463-hp all-wheel-drive powertrain, while the 4S E-Hybrid produces 536 horsepower. The GTS is powered by a 493-hp twin-turbocharged V8 and comes with a lowered and stiffened suspension for improved handling. 

All models share the refreshed styling and chassis components introduced for 2024. The E-Hybrid models also offer an active suspension system with hydraulic pumps that quickly adjust to bumps or sharp cornering, providing a smoother and more stable ride.

Porsche Panamera Specifications

The Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4 have a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine that produces 348 horsepower. Both models come with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, but the Panamera 4 has all-wheel drive, while the base model has rear-wheel drive.

The E-Hybrid models use the same turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 but add an electric motor for extra power. The 4 E-Hybrid makes 463 horsepower, while the 4S E-Hybrid boosts it to 536 horsepower. The GTS trim comes with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 493 horsepower. It also gets a special suspension with stiffer anti-roll bars and a ride height that's 0.4 inches lower than other trims, improving performance but making the ride noticeably harsher.

During the practical drive, the GTS was impressed with its performance but felt firm on rough roads. When testing the hybrid models, the updated powertrains didn't feel much different from the previous versions.

 All Panamera models have adaptive air suspension for improved comfort and handling. Rear-wheel steering is an option, while the E-Hybrid models offer an active suspension system. This system uses the car's 400-volt electrical setup to control hydraulic pumps in the dampers, which helps reduce body roll and keep the ride stable.

The Panamera's ride is stiffer than that of other luxury sedans, but this aligns with its sporty focus. Sport and Sport Plus driving modes further stiffen the suspension for sharper handling. However, one downside is the noticeable road noise. Tyre roar on the rough pavement is louder here than in many competing luxury sedans, which reduces the cabin's comfort. 

Regarding acceleration, the Panamera can accelerate from 0-100 km/h with the Sports Chrono Package in 5.1 seconds. Its top speed is 272 km/h. Panamera 4 has a top speed of 270 km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The Panamera 4-E Hybrid covers the same whooping acceleration with the Sports Chrono Package in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h.

Furthermore, the SE-hybrid version has a top speed of 290 km/h and covers the same sprint in 3.7 seconds. The Panamera GTS has an impressive top speed of 302 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

An additional 10.9-inch passenger-side display, which provides access to entertainment features, is available as an option. 

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with a wireless smartphone charging pad. For audio, a 14-speaker Bose sound system is available, or you can upgrade to a premium 21-speaker Burmester system for an even richer listening experience.

Porsche Panamera offers a mileage of 8 to 29 km/l in the city and 13 to 32 km/l on the highway. The petrol engine has a fuel tank capacity of 80l. 

The EPA estimates the base Porsche Panamera's fuel economy to be 7.7 km/l in the city, 10.6 km/l on the highway, and 8.9 km/l combined. Its small turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine is less fuel-efficient than some competitors, such as the Audi S7 and BMW 840i Gran Coupe.
