an 80 rs can, and so many uses? thats amazing. Well i was always reluctant to use it on the greased parts due to its property to dissolve the grease. I am not sure about that yet.

And another use of it as told to me by an electritian was to spray a small quantity in to the clips of the wiring it will clear the dust and water from joints, (I m talking about the wirings of vehicles) i also never tried it, My thought was that since it is flammable it might catch fire, Still reluctent to use it. If you could plz check these things also.

Please keep in mind that mineral oils attack rubber and some plastics. WD-40 has a lot of kerosene (among other mineral products) and that can eat through rubber.

At one time, it was common practice to spray used engine oil under the chassis to prevent rust. While it prevents rust, it eats through suspension bushes.

If you wish to protect / lubricate rubber parts, use vegetable or animal fats. They do not attack rubber. I had a "problem" with my car that during the rainy season, the fan, alternator belts etc. used to squeak. I would apply a very thin layer of veggie oil or lamb fat, and it would remain squeak-less for around 2-3 weeks (or until the fat was washed off by water). Don't overdo it though, or you'll lose drive in the belts.

According to the WD-40 Website, there are five basic function which WD-40 Does. You just can't use it everywhere. Be very careful if you use it under the hood, this is not for engine cleaning!!!!

Old thread, but useful information. I mainly use WD-40 to remove squeaks from doors and joints. Also removes the rust from battery terminals. Haven't tried it on paint but really want to get rid of a small sticker on my car's trunk.

aa all:

well my experience with this wd-40 is bad. i applied it on fire-arms and found them all rusty after few weeks.
to me it is no more than a pressurised can (with butane or propane) of kerosene oil.

on the other hand i tried a product with a brand name "cyclo-breakway" and am quite impressed with it. it really unlocks frozen bolts / nuts & lubricates as well. if anyone can spot it in market pls let me know as i am unable to find this these days.

You should NEVER use WD-40 on firearms, even air-powered ones. The Kerosene combusts with friction from the bullet in the barrel raising pressures in the barrel to dangerous levels. I've already destroyed a gasket on my Diana air rifle once, and it wasn't a pretty sight.

In any case, WD-40 is a "Water Displacement (WD)" product that can eat through rust and remove water, but other than that, I don't think it can hold off rust indefinitely.

If I want to store a gun for a long time, I dismantle it, apply machine oil to it liberally, and then store the parts in a plastic bag. You can keep your guns rust-free for decades like this.
