Hemispherical cylinder heads are old school. I believe only Chrysler is using it in today's market.

The best way to learn about cars is through classic car mags. You'll be amazed at how many of the ideas considered as new have been tried long before. And you're absolutely right about other manufacturers using hemi heads. Chrysler only has the rights to name, not the design.

In a non-hemi head, the valves are more or less parallel to each other and to one side of the combustion chamber with the spark plug to the other side. The combustion chamber looks like a wedge actually.

In a hemi head, the valves are at opposite ends of the combustion chamber with the spark plug at or near the center.

Apparently, it helps in scavenging (removal of exhaust gases), as the air can flow from one end of the chamber to the other, instead of looping around on itself as in the wedge combustion chamber. Also, the size of valves can be larger as compared to the wedge shaped chambers.

Considering the fact that the engine design is 50 years old!! See Hennessey performance hwo fast they have pushed the car to 800hp ....

M5/XFR/CLS63....No one has dared yet to push these cars to their maximum potential...the Stroker came out pretty late by dinan as well as the G-Power TT Superchargers!!

The engine is not really a 50 year old design. It's a recent late-90s ground up re-design Sami's raving mad. The earlier generation, the LT series could've been linked to the 50 year old generation. The various reasons they stuck with push-rod valvetrains was that it makes for a much more compact and lighter engine. You can have a bigger capacity engine in the same space. Ever wonder how people fit LS motors into Miatas? it doesn't take a lot of modifying to do that. Try to fit a Lexus V8 or a 2JZ in there. And of course it makes for a cheaper engine on the long run.

I was under the impression that the A/T in the CTS was a ZF, but I was wrong, Googling around, I found that it's a GM 6L90 and is used in other GM vehicles as well. It seems to be a pretty stout gearbox, the specs give around 600 lb-ft as the official rating. Same goes for the Tremec TR6060 manual, rated for 600 lb-ft as well.

Thanks man, I tried :D. Yeah I thought that the trans might be a ZF as well but wasn't sure. The TR6060 is basically the updated version of the trusty T56 and is used in the Dodge Viper amongst other cars. The Viper motor makes 600lb-ft so the TR6060's potential is utilized to the max in that application.

I have another question...MB AMG uses only Auto trans to achieve greater torque numbers?!My question is how does the Auto trans help in getting better torque figure over manual trans?! & can we consider that every auto trans car will have better torque range over its manual version?!

So here we have both super-chargers & auto-trans the ultimate recipe for great number of torque?!

Using a torque convertor. But it only occurs when the input of the torque convertor is spinning faster than the outlet. Like a car moves off from rest, or when the torque convertor is at stall - that is, the car is held on the brakes while the engine is revved. So this multiplication of torque is not effective at high speeds. And also, this is why A/T burnouts or brakestands are so easy :D.

Yeaah..HP matter at high speed not torque..Torque is good for in city driving or rubber burning!! But the way you explaine dit sounds anyone with the will can make it..WHy is MB always emphasizing infact always give away its Auto-trans for the sake of torque?!

LOL; But Burnout on A/T is something not everyone can do sirjee!!

Saw Hammond in their trip to Amreeka try to burn the rubber of A/T Challenger..and he doesnt even makes a sound!! lol

So as the cars starts to build momentum]picks up speed]torque diminishes.

bigger torque at low revs. or on high-revs on first few gears stalled for burn-out sort of stuff!!
