New project: Pajero Mini Camper
So, its been many months now I've been working on a design to have a removable camper setup for my Pajero Mini. I have gone through many DIY designs on YouTube and other sites, and explored ready-made products.
Pajero Mini is really small vehicle, and my original plan was to have a roof-mounted tent design, but it will need more engineering time. Best thing about Pajero Mini is that its rear seats fold to make big flat surface for luggage or in my case a camper. So, I decided to go with simple idea for now, to sleep inside the vehicle
The design was getting built up in my mind, it finally landed in my laptop couple of weeks ago. I'm still refining it, but the basic concept is here. Take a look,
In this design I'm using 0.5" plywood, best quality available.
Here's a photo of Pajero Mini with rear seats folded so you can get idea how it will actually fit,
The drawers are facing rear door. Normally, folding panel rests on drawers, but when going to sleep, folding panel will unfold on front seats like in diagram, which are front-folded to about 45 degrees.
It makes nice bed for one person, and length is pretty reasonable for comfortable sleep. The rear door will be closed, window glass can be rolled down for fresh air, and for keeping mosquitoes out, I will make couple of window nets which will be snapped on with multiple small magnets to the body of vehicle.
Drawers are to keep food and other camping gear, I'm thinking to make center drawer as water tank (custom fiberglass build with 12v motor), it can easily hold about 20+ liters of water (7" height X 10" width X 35" length). Open drawer a little bit, take out water hose and turn on motor, nice isn't it?
And remember this is removable, after a trip it can be really easily taken out and rear seats will be available again for daily use.
So, let me know what you think of this design, any improvements that can be done to it?
Visited timber market yesterday for rates, now have good idea about cost. while in timber market, I remembered there was one small piece that needs immediate replacement, yup rear storage cover.
