well if you understand the logic of oil 5w-50 flows like any other 5w (low viscosity oil) at lower temperature and flows like 50 weight oil at higher temperatures.

But still why 50 when the engine recommends 20? 50 is going to be thicker than 20. 2ZR-FE runs on 0W20 all around the world, why are we different? Why is our manual different? There are hotter places in the world than Pakistan, there are colder places than Pakistan too.

Why is this ridiculous practice promoted by Toyota. The whole world is running 0w20 and 5w20/5w30 on 2ZR and only us run it on 5W50. Amazing.

50 means it actually is garha tail at high temperature (operating temperature of the car). 50 doesn't flow like 20, and 20 is what the engine needs.

Agreed. Always use the recommended oil, and to avoid bad practices, always cross reference Pakistani manual with other countries. Insist on the thinnest recommended oil in the manual, always. Go to consumer court if they threaten to end your warranty. Enough of these auto-looters industry.

They recommended 0w20 zic at 5000 kms.

Used ZIC 0w20 in Prius for 3 years, no issues at all. Car gives sometimes over 32kml in med-heavy traffic in summer with AC (for 1 trip, not overall).

brother read the hyundai manual above. it clearly says that 5w-30 to be used in middle east. 0w-20 in other than middle east.

Could be because Hyundai engine is designed differently, and it does need thicker oil in higher temps. You can try searching for a manual for the US, hotter areas, Nevada, New Mexico etc. This should confirm if this is the case. But please, 5w30 doesn't mean 5w50 or 20w50. Stick to what is written in the manual.

The 50 is extremely thick and flows terrible at high temperatures.

It's not designed for any modern petrol engine since at least 2002+.

Yes, 5w30 isnt too THICK or gaarha, but @shapeesh seems to think w20 is too thin when it's not. It's actually the ideal grade for almost all modern engines.

And toyota actually says in many manuals that use only 5w30 if you can't find 0w20, and on next oil change immediately switch back to 0w20.

5w50 is a terrible oil for any decent condition engine.

1. If you want to keep warranty, change at dealership.
2. Stick to 0w20. That's the best oil, n it's a good thing Hyundai Pakistan has some sane people following modern oil grade practice.

Well i just got back from lahore and it was a 237 km trip. Make that round trip nearlly 500 km. For an oil change thats too much travelling. I think ill have to sacrifice my warranty

This is a huge disadvantage for people living away from Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi. I mean are you in south Punjab? And there is no dealership in Multan/Bahawalpur?

They can open at least 2S workshops, I mean I am sure there will be Tuscons in your area. Where do they go?
Or do a joint with Kia, since Kia uses the same Hyundai Nu engine in Sportage. But we all know they will not do this either. Or outsource under warranty repairs, or some of them such as oil changes and inspections to local workshop, but we know they won't do it either.

500km, 7,8 hrs, thousands of Rs worth of Petrol, just for an oil change is too much.

Yes there is a dealership in Multan. Multan is nearlly the same distance as lahore. One in Faisalabad that is about 180 kms and road from Sahiwal to faisalabad is the worst.
Anyways i had oil changed about an hour ago. Went for Zic X7 0w20 which was 1100 rs per litre and original filter worth 2200 rs.

why u didnt get the oil changed from dealership? did u change the oil at 1000 km? from where did u get the oil filter?

Well i didnt see the point to change it from the dealership since im not gonna be in future. I changed at 1500 km. We have quite a few sportages and tuscons in our city so filter was not an issue.

You could've bought a case of oil and filters from hyundai dealership and gotten oil changes with them from local workshops. I would definitely trust dealers' products a lot more than the local market, especially the filters. Plus as far as I know, hyundai uses repacked imported shell 5w30 for 5000rs for 4l, which considering how expensive other synthetics have gotten, is not a bad price. Also that shell oil has the proper a5/b5 rating that is required in the manual.

Hyundai recommended Zic 0w20. Also i trust the person i get oil changed from known him for around 16 years. He also provides me ammonia compressor oil for my units.
One thing i havent pushed the car for the first 1500kms. Today i went above 100 a couple of times at around 105 to 110 i felt a judder in steering like the wheels arent balanced. I had changed the tyres and got the wheels balanced should i have them rechecked.

If you value your engine then stay away from ZIC. Use oils by good brands like Shell, Liqui Moly, Amsoil, etc. ZIC will kill anything it touches.

Also, I think maintenance of any kind outside the dealership will void the warranty of the car.

Well i would love to get it maintained from the dealership. But a 500 km round trip isnt feasible.

Is Zic oil that bad any other opinions...

Zic is only killer if fake, which is unfortunately common in pak. Its got approvals from even mercedes benz and other high end brands on some of their oils. On the other hand zic is also not some great magic oil like some morons claim it is. In pakistan, it is definitely overpriced for what it offers. Shell 0w20 is a much more superior oil for around the same price as zic 0w20.

Nothing to worry about if you are 100% sure it is original. Although for the future, I would recommend you shell helix ultra 0w20 or 5w20 from a verified source like shell's darazmall store.

Ur logic makes sense. 2 number products are every where.
I will def switch to shell next time. I am thinking of running this oil for 2500 to 3000 kms. Then ill switch to shell helix ultra

No issue in using this for the usual 5000km oil change interval.

get the balancing checked and ensure there is no issue with the steering column. i think u r still good to claim warranty God forbid if required.

also zic is as good as any other oil besides its korean like the car :).

u can switch to shell or even better Mobil 1.
