Honda Civic 8th Gen overheating on AC on, blowing hot air if idle

I am facing some problems after AC Gas refill

One day out of the blue, my all AC gas leaked within a night. I went to Honda Point, he tried to check leakage but he never found any and refilled the gas and according to him compressor was not running after refilling Gas, so he said he did something and it starts working, I found i fishy but I was in hurry so I just came back.

Next day all gas again gone, I went to Pakistan AC at PICCO Road Lahore. He found leakage under dashboard in a pipe. After fixing it he refilled the gas. But after some days I start facing a strange issue.

initially, when car is in sunlight for 3 to 4 hours, and outside temperature is 40 degrees C, car AC take too long to cool car, but when car starts moving, AC works fine sometimes it was extra cold, but only when car is moving. when stopped, its start blowing hot air.

after some days, my car was full with 5 to 6 people. A new issue came up, when ever I started my car AC, engine started overheating. It goes back to normal when I turned of AC. My fans are working, both Condensor and Rediator. but I don't know if they are working at High speed or low

the way i understand it,
some part of your compressor was damaged because running too long with low refrigerant causing it to put load on the engine due to increased friction hence car is facing overheat tempratures and the technician at Pakistan a/c didn't refill the gas properly, there's moisture or air present in your car's a/c system therefore cooling isn't up to mark when the car isn't moving.

Can it be Coolant issue? I told him, he asked me to get a Tuneup and flush my radiator and add coolant in it, right now Radiator is filled with simple tap water. But this wasn't making enough sense to me. how AC system is connected to Radiator.

Overcharged?? how much refrigerant should be in there?? What should be the reading on low and high gauge?

or cheap chinese gas which puts alot of load on compressor

Issue resolved and issue was blocked Radiator. Installed brand new radiator and all issues gone

Always use coolant for radiator refill. Avoid tap water , with passage of time water cause corrosion in radiator.

Although this thread is old i just want to add that my car 2010 had exactly the same problem of overheating with AC on especially going uphill on motorways. I checked the radiator several times and it was always full. Strangely, after switching off the engine, the thermal status would quickly become normal although it seems impossible so quickly bc of the specific heat of water. One more thing is that the car would not start after it heated up and it needed a bit of push to start. I went to the mechanic and he suggested to change the radiator and see if it works and if it doersnt, then we have to go for the gasket. He did not have time that day so i went to an electrician for the start up problem. He checked the battery and told me that one cell of the battery was gone and that i should change the battery and that it is the real problem. I changed the battery and the problem was gone. no heating up uphill or downhill with or without AC.

Your car coolant temperature sensor is faulty. Mine I also became defective a couple of years back and I replaced it with kabli sensor for Rs 700.

also get your thermostat valve checked. it might not be opening at the right time.

its normal. in Honda cars only condenser fan works with AC and radiator fan works as per the engine temperature automatically and independently from AC fan.

Just verify that your Radiator fan is working as and when it should. Also check your thermostat valve whether its working correctly or not.

have you checked the coolant level in the car? also are you sure that your water body is in fine working condition?

Do you know different between coolant service and radiator service and how much honda charge for each?

The fan on your driver side is the ac fan and the other one is radiator fan last month i faced a similar problem that car was over heating with ac so after checking i saw that the ac fan was not working and i had to get its motor replaced which costed me 1500 rs for the motor and 500 labour charges. And for regular cooling for engine both fans should work in my both civics both fan turns on but at low speed that i can barely hear their sound and with ac they should work at high speed

If are ready to spend more for new coolant temperature sensor then contact any Sugoi or 2S honda dealer. New one may cost you Rs 2000 or above.

first thing you need to confirm is that the car has coolant in it. the spill over you showed in the picture looks like a green coolant which is not of good quality or very old.

2ndly i think your thermostat valve needs to be checked in case both fans are running.

by the way the fan on the driver side is condensor/AC fan and it should run with AC.

the fan on the front passenger side is the radiator fan and it runs when the car needs cooling. once the radiator fan runs the thermostat valve opens and allow water into the cooling path of engine to absorb the heat.

you get to know regarding waterbody functionality by observing. if there is some hissing sound from the driver side of the engine once the radiator fan is running than it means that waterbody might be making a noise which it shouldnt. if there is no such sound you are good.

i cant comment on the charges for changing the thermostat valve and coolant.

Your car need ethylene glycol based coolant which is equivalent to honda type 2 coolant.

you need to see a good mechanic first to find the actual cause of the issue and only after that you can proceed with fixing the issue accordingly.

And InshaAllah today i will change its relay and temperature sensor is it important now? Or dont do it ?

As long as the ac compresser is on both fan should be running wether the car is ideling or moving
