Halal or haram.....?

Being here in USA, I come across this question every other day what is halal and what is haram. Yahan tu hamary musalman bhaee even "non zabiha ghost" bhee halal keh kar baichtay hain.. such a non sense.

accoriding Hanafi school of thought E120 is haram.E120 is a red food coloring which is derived from insects. It is also for your information that it i used in coffee as well like starbucks already admitted they use it and now they are working on replacing it with non living substance to produce same coloring. Is it Halal?: E120 / Carmine dye

So it IS haraam to consume not only MnMs but every other food products which contain E 120. Hence it is upto the reader if he wants to avoid it or keep consuming it. I dont think that this is senseless reason to avoid it but a legit one.

The point is that locust is also an insect and it was eaten by sahaba.. so what im saying is maybe some insects are halal and some not..

I respect your concerns over this. Everyone has his/her right to eat what he likes or whatever takes his/her fancy. My point was only meant for people who are willing to avoid haraam at any cost and not for people who takes this as extremism. Everyone has his/her own level of piousness. I even know people who do not wear black or green socks or shoes as they say that these are the colours of KAABA and GUMBAD E KHIZRA. (Yes according to your post this fits in the NEXT LEVEL of senseless Paki religiosity ) but as i have already said that everyone has his/her own level of piousness, so we cant do much here.

My dear friend, to understand true and real meaning of any hadith u shud have in front of u all ahadith related to tht topic. Now coming to locust. So there is a hadith in which it is mentioned tht ALLAH has made two dead things halal for muslims. One is fish and the other is locust. Both of them are halal without slaughter. And regarding other insects so they are not halal.

i also respect this point of yours. Actually we should make one step right? sara kuch to ek dam nahi ho sakta. ahista ahista hi sab kuch theek ho ga na. and one more thing jo oont nigal rahe hotay hein wo machar kyu chanay gey?
although some of the obvious halal things are not actually halal here in pakistan e.g a nihari shop owner near my house got arrested of using donkey meat... yuckh :s The point is that the things which are obvious haraam we should leave them asap.

as far as i know only fish with scales are halal..
i personally dont consider shrimp halal either (its a bottom feeder) eats waste and stuff like a pig..

we get into some much complications. We do things which are strickly prohibted in Islam and there is no doubt about it.

As far as M&M are concerend.. If it is e120 its haram as per hanafi.. if its e124 its halal as its synthetic coloring. As I mentioned in earlier respone , the things we buy which are even halal are full of "Milawat".. what to talk about the confusing items..

My co-worker who is a orthdox jew.. dont eat m&M reason being the same e120.
