Since it was one year i had bought my car and as part of periodic maintenance brake oil replacement was due. Went to Honda Johar Town, They said "Sir brake is working fine, sometimes after flush brake pedal may not be this good". So i decided to take matter in my own hand.
This guide is to guide others if they intend to do it.
Time Required:2-3 Hours Max
Tools Required: 8mm, 10mm ratchet or spanner, Syringe, PET Bottle, clear aquarium pipe, DOT 3 (as per my car) brake fluid 1 liter approx.
Why ?Brake fluid is hydrophilic which means it tends to absorb water content from air. Over time it can cause rust in your system and these vapors have low boiling points which can boil and make your brake spongy. You may have low or even no brakes when you require it the most. Normally it is recommended to replace it every two years. Brakes are critical we should not compromise on it.
Procedure:
1. Clean the brake reservoir for any debris or dirt and make sure you put a rag on fender as brake oil etches paint and you dont want that.
2. Make a hole in the cap of bottle and insert pipe as shown in figs.
3. You want to start from farthest and then to closest. This is Left Rear, Right Rear, Front Left, Front Right.
4. Locate the bleeder valve and remove the cap. Connect the pipe. Remove as much content as you can from reservoir so that you can add new before starting bleeding
5. Pipe should be about 3-5 inches above the bleeder valve as shown in fig to prevent air coming back.
6. Loosen the valve and to avoid slippage i used ratchet and then controlled by spanner.
7. You would want to place a brick under the brake pedal to avoid pressing it fully. Reason is mostly when brake booster is not used the brake oil due to water content absorption causes rust and when you press you can introduce a leak. so play it safe.
8. With gentle strokes press pedal until you see a clear new fluid coming out of valve in pipe.
9. Make sure you constantly top off the reservoir and never allow brake booster to run empty.
10. Do all wheels and remove pipe when you have tightened the bleeder valves.
11. Look at the oil removed from the system and gunk in it.
12. Oh yeh it is time you inspect. I had ABS sensor holders broken so i tied them.
Disclaimer: This method was what worked for me your ride may have different procedure but most have same. It worked out for me and i take no responsibility for your losses as situations vary.
