Total quartz 5w30 is best. Don't use thick oil which is jot recommended for those engines. Only 5w30 is recommended. If you use thick oils engine life will be reduced
Also get good quality oil filter preferably Toyota oem oil filter
If staying on 10w40 grade, which company is best i.e. Total or Zic. And what are reviews about grade 5w40 (zic or Total)
i experimented it already. i had city d15b engine. when i bought i was using 20w50 for 3 years then i put 5w30 and everything changed. oil was not getting low and pickup got increased with avg also. so if engine health is good use recommended oil.
IMO, ZIC is good as ZIC 10w-40 is fully synthetic. Total 10w-40 is semi synthetic or mineral based.
5w-40 is also a reasonable grade, but its currently offered by ZIC only, and not Total. Total offers 5w-30, and not 5w-40.
Total introduced 5w40
OH. I see...
Thanks for letting me know, as I did not know about it (it might have been introduced recently).
Yes it was not before.. Launched recently
5w40 havoline by caltex is a very good option
Not sure if the following will be any help to you or not...but still would like to share my experience I have a Honda City 2010 (thank you @basitali87 for highlighting the typo)... was running on 10w30 since day one... when it reached a little above 70,000km, I decided to shift to 5w30, on checking around got the similar response... some were in favour others were against... saying that it is already done 70k so it is too late... engine will start consuming oil etc. Anyways I went ahead and so far the engine is performing great - it is currently a little above 85k km. Oil level remains the same, fuel consumption has improved.. just a bit.
YES. Totally Agreed!
But since fellow member asked only in-between ZIC and Total, that's why I said so, otherwise, other than Caltex / Havoline, which you have mentioned, Shell, Kixx and ZIC also offer 5w-40, and in fully synthetic!
For confirmation:
ZIC: https://zicoil.pk/product/zic-x9-5w-40-vhvi-tech/KIXX: http://www.kixxoil.pk/kixx-pao-sn-5w-40/Shell: https://www.shell.com.pk/motorists/oils-lubricants/helix-for-cars/helix-fully-synthetic/shell-helix-ultra-5w-40.html
I hope, it clarifies. Thank you.
And driven 70~85,000 Kms, in 8 months?
Please clarify, as I think there is some typo, or I am missing something.
Jazati hoo gaya thaa It is 2010... guess now you will have answers to all your question
YES. I was extremely puzzled, as to how a Honda City, which is a normal car IMO, can be driven around 85,000 Kms, in 8 months? Unless / until it is driven about ~354 Kms daily (which seems quite difficult, if not impossible).
Is 300,000 mileage okay for 21 year old car
Yes. It can be true.
