Best time to visit Khunjerab Pass - China Border

Can anyone tell me whether we will be able to cross that Attabad Lake on cars?? Or do we have to get them loaded on boats and then cross the area??

We are planning to do it in 2nd week of July, 12 INSHALLAH

Wouldn't recommend using boats as it can cause damage to your cars. Also, they would charge you like anything so wouldn't be suitable financially as well.

We are a group of 3 persons and have intentions to ride cycle from isb to khunjerab pass. We have plan to start our journey on 15th of july.

Hi,

First of all, do not take the route through N-35(KKH) entirely, it goes through Besham and is way way longer than the alternative route through Kaghan Naran. N-125. Use this rotue, a mix of KKH & N-125

Haripur > Abbottabad > Mansehra > Kaghan > Naran > Chillas > Gilgit > Hunza > Sost > Khunjera Pass

The problem of the Attaabad Lake is no more. There is a tunnel now.

Do not go to Khunjerab between 10 July - 15 August. Besides the general dangers of the route, the roads from Naran to Chillas will stop you from moving forward.

Also avoid going after 31st October because after that snowfalls start.

You guys are going to have so much fun and adventure. Its all safe and easy to go in the dates you are mentioned however as @adnanmanzoor said, dont take besham route as it is a long route and there is security issue also. Take naran route as it is shorter and very scenic. Climbing babusar can be tough but this is what adventure lover look forward in their tour.

I dont know what general dangers @adnanmanzoor is talking about but i have visited these areas in same days and i have not faced such kind of any situation.

But yes there are some timing restrictions to cross babusar which is i guess before 4 or 5 pm you should cross the babusar. Rest is all fine.

Safety for tourists. There is risk of being theft/snatched in night travelling from babusar top towards chillas.

Better to be safe and travel in day time.

Moreover, it requires more care to travel on such steepish track even in daylight, where you have to face sharp curves, sudden height or decline etc. Chances of encounter with wildlife gets higher in Dark. I have faced group of 3-4 wild foxes right in front of my bike near Balakot after Maghrib, which resulted an emergency break to avoid collision.

Similarly, in case of any problem with vehicle or person its hard to get kinda support after daylight.

by general dangers I means Land Sliding due to rains and all. And other thing was this time is too crowded. I myself am planning to visit Khunjerab after Eid-ul-Azha, And I am giving a weeks gap after Eid so that all the Eid Touristers have returned and roads are almost empty.
